This is beautifully expressed.
Once I transported a woman from home to hospital. Soon after our arrival, written on the Labor and Delivery unit's board next to my client's name (for all to see), was the notation, "Failed home birth." I took the Charge R.N. aside and explained to her the many ways that phrase was inappropriate. Here's to continued greater understanding between community midwives, families, and hospital staff.

Respect!!!
Mariah Bowerstock Mendenhall was a midwife from 1840 to 1900. Some time during the mid-1890s she figured she had assisted with 980 births. In her records she notes that she never had a woman die while in her care. She and her family lived on a farm in Penn Township where they raised sheep and flax.

Nizhoni is looking for one or two placentas for students to learn the art and science of examining a placenta. Any folks (midwives or others) have an extra placenta in the freezer you can donate? TIA!
*** I know this may seem like a strange request, but hey, we're a midwifery school!
