You don't always know how things are going to work out or when but have faith that they will. 💖

In the university I had to take an Art History class, it was one of those core classes required to graduate that had nothing to do with my major.

I never considered myself an art buff but the story of the Taj Mahal intrigued me.

So, back in 2001, in that Art History class, I told a friend that one day I was going to see the Taj Mahal.

Almost 20 years later that dream came true.

Let this story be your inspiration to keep the faith alive. 🥰

It's show time! 😍

Are you also a fan of reading books and watching TV in the language you're learning?

But sometimes you can't find the books in English or the people you watch shows with don't want to watch the dubbed version. 😭

No worries, my friend!

The language that you watch a show in or read a book in doesn't stop you from using it for English practice. 🙌

Sometimes the French mysteries I have access to don't have subtitles and I need those subtitles to know if I solved the mystery correctly! But we can't let this stop us from practicing. 💪

Do you really need something to be in English for you to practice English?

No.

You are creative. You are motivated. You are determined to spend time using English, so you can use anything to practice English. 🥰

If you're feeling a bit sluggish however and looking for an extra push to use these speaking tips, stay tuned because there is going to be a really cool opportunity to join me in a community on my favorite video discussion app, Flip (formerly Flipgrid).

Until then, be sure to sign up to get regular English updates from me in my newsletter. You can DM or click the link below to do that today. 🎉

Consistent isn't a synonym for daily.

You can be consistent without daily English practice despite what Duolingo wants you to believe.

Everyone says, ‘speak fluently’ but OMG, what does that even mean? 🤯

It sounds like another ‘buzzword’ these days.

How can you begin to speak fluently without understanding what "fluency" actually means?

Fluency means speaking English at a speed that makes you feel good with pauses that feel natural to you.

So, this could refer to speaking about topics that come up during a conversation or it could be more specific, like in reference to topics that only come up at your work.

Pausing for 5 seconds to decide what to say next can be speaking fluently as you talk about whether a hippopotamus would make a good pet and why. 🦛😍

Giving a 30-minute presentation on supply and demand at your job like a smooth-talking, economics-loving robot can be speaking fluently too. 🤖💪

Fluency doesn't just mean never pausing and speaking faster than Weird Al raps. 😉

*buzzword = a word or expression from a particular subject area that has become fashionable by being used a lot, especially on television and in the newspapers or in this case, in the language learning industry
