Union County Career and Technology Center

On the afternoon of May 20, 2026, LTC Ruzicka, along with eight JROTC cadets and several community volunteers, dedicated their time and effort to cleaning one of Union County’s historic cemeteries. The service project was organized as part of William Reeves’ community service initiative.

Despite the hot temperatures, the group worked diligently to help preserve an important piece of our local history. Their positive attitudes, teamwork, and commitment to serving the community made the cleanup a great success.

We commend William Reeves, LTC Ruzicka, the cadets, and all volunteers who participated in this meaningful project. Their dedication is a wonderful example of leadership, citizenship, and community pride.

This year, we proudly partnered with Spartanburg Community College to offer a Phlebotomy program for our students. Today, we are honored to celebrate the first cohort of students as they participate in their pinning ceremony for the course.

This milestone represents their hard work, dedication, and commitment to pursuing careers in the healthcare field. We are incredibly proud of these students and grateful for our partnership with Spartanburg Community College in providing valuable opportunities for career readiness and professional growth. On May 1, Mrs. Heather Gregory, our Business Finance teacher, was recognized by the South Carolina Economics organization and the State Treasurer for completing the South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher Program. This prestigious opportunity allowed her to strengthen her knowledge of financial literacy, enhance her leadership skills, and grow both professionally and personally.

We are incredibly proud of Mrs. Gregory for this outstanding accomplishment and for her dedication to expanding her financial literacy expertise to better serve and inspire her students in the classroom. Her commitment to excellence continues to make a lasting impact on our school and community.

A night of celebration, recognition, and new beginnings ✨

The FFA of Union proudly hosted their 2025–2026 banquet honoring the dedication, leadership, and accomplishments of this year’s members. From recognizing our graduating seniors and senior officers to welcoming our newly inducted officers, the evening was a beautiful reflection of growth, hard work, and the legacy being passed on.

Congratulations to every student who has helped shape this chapter. Your leadership, service, and commitment will continue to inspire the future of FFA. 💙🌾

Job well done Mrs. Dill and Mr. Gardner!

Students in the Artificial Intelligence class used Arduino boards to design and build mini smart farms that incorporated sensors to monitor key environmental factors. Students collected and analyzed data from these sensors, then used Microsoft Excel to create charts and graphs to visualize trends and better understand how technology can support modern agricultural practices. This hands-on project allowed students to apply problem-solving, data analysis, and technology skills in a real-world agricultural setting.

Mrs. Jolly and Lieutenant Colonel Ruzicka collaborated to combine their classes for a week of American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification training, which included CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) instruction.

The course provided students with hands-on learning led by a certified instructor, allowing them to practice essential lifesaving skills through real-life scenarios and interactive training. At the conclusion of the course, 52 students successfully earned their BLS certification.

BLS certification equips students with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively to cardiac emergencies, choking incidents, and other life-threatening situations. The certification, issued by the American Heart Association, is valid for two years and serves as an important credential for students pursuing careers in healthcare and public service.

Our Health Science class recently explored the important topic of diseases and immunity, gaining a deeper understanding of how the body protects itself against illness and infection. Students studied the immune system, common diseases, methods of prevention, and the role of vaccines in maintaining overall health. Through engaging discussions and hands-on learning, they developed a stronger appreciation for the science behind staying healthy and protecting others in their community.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and our HOSA students sponsored a special Mental Health Awareness event to support and encourage student well-being. Throughout all three lunch periods, students had the opportunity to visit booths featuring stress-relief activities, positive affirmations, and helpful mental health resources.

Our FFA program joined the event by providing pet therapy with a goat and a rabbit, giving students a fun and calming experience. Our Guidance Department also participated by sharing valuable information about mental health and providing stress balls to help students manage daily stress.

This event created a positive space for students to learn about the importance of mental health, practice self-care, and connect with helpful resources. We are proud of our students and staff for promoting awareness and supporting one another.
