In an inspiring message to the EE community, Engr. Christine C. Bautista, the Vice President for Research Extension and Linkages, challenged the student body to continuously champion excellence and utilize their technical expertise toward uplifting the lives of our society.

Bringing together BSEE students, student-officers, and esteemed EE faculty members, this assembly successfully set a strong foundation for the upcoming academic year, fostering camaraderie and aligning institutional goals for student development.

The program officially concluded with closing remarks from Engr. Rex A. Garing, the Adviser of the IIEE-UNC Student Chapter, who challenged the entire EE community to push past boundaries and reach new heights in the school year ahead. Driven by unity and a strong sense of purpose, the department enters the new academic term fully energized for its upcoming technical and leadership milestones.

They led the regional standings, outperforming Batangas State University (2nd Place) and Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (3rd Place).

𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗦, 𝗙𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘—Representing the University of Nueva Caceres at the world's premier gathering of open-knowledge advocates were the esteemed Architecture faculty member 𝗔𝗿. 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼, 𝗨𝗔𝗣, and our Architecture student 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗝𝗼𝘆 𝗘𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘂 𝗘𝘀𝗴𝘂𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮. They made a powerful statement on the global digital stage this month, proudly championing Bicolano culture and open-access education at 𝗪𝗶𝗸𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 on 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟭-𝟮𝟱, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 in 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀, 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. Their participation coincided with a monumental milestone for the global internet, the 25th anniversary of Wikipedia.

In a deeply symbolic gesture of cultural exchange, they traveled to France carrying copies of 𝗔𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝗻𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗽𝗲, the acclaimed Bikol translation (translated by Wilmer Joseph Tria) of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved literary classic, The Little Prince. By bringing this regional treasure to the birthplace of the original masterpiece, Ar. Merencillo and Esguerra highlighted the vital importance of linguistic equity and the preservation of mother-tongue languages on global platforms.

This year’s historic Wikimania conference was anchored on the theme of "Freedom, Equity, and Reliability" in the global information ecosystem. Surrounded by thousands of educators, tech innovators, and Wikimedia editors, the UNC representatives engaged in critical dialogues shaping the future of the free internet. They championed the irreplaceable value of human-curated data amidst the rapid proliferation of Generative AI, ensuring that marginalized languages and regional narratives are not left behind by algorithms.

A standout moment of the historic summit occurred when Ar. Merencillo had the distinct honor of meeting Jimmy Wales, the visionary founder of Wikipedia himself. This encounter not only underscored the global reach of UNC’s advocacy but also provided a remarkable opportunity to bridge our local initiatives with the highest levels of global digital leadership.

Through their active participation at Wikimania 2026 and their engagement with the very pioneers of the open internet, Ar. Merencillo and Esguerra have positioned UNC as a forward-thinking champion of digital equity and cultural preservation. Their journey from Naga City to Paris serves as an inspiring reminder that local voices and the rich heritage of the Bikol language—truly belong on the world’s biggest stages.

The event brought together forward-thinking student leaders, educators, and eco-advocates from universities around the globe. Attendees collaborated on innovative solutions, shared best practices for green campus initiatives, and engaged in strategic discussions aimed at addressing today’s most pressing environmental challenges.

Their successful participation highlights the university’s dedication to empowering the next generation of eco-champions. By engaging in this vital international platform, both the students and their faculty mentor have gained invaluable insights and global perspectives on sustainable development.
