Rest In Peace Eric Carle. My very first classroom I decorated in an “Eric Carle” theme. It seemed appropriate given all the joy his books brought me growing up and how excited I was to share this love for reading, learning, and art with my new students. Thank you.

Beginning of the year versus end of the school year. Still the best organization system I have found for storing all the little everyday things! It’s a toolbox from a home improvement store with customized labels! I think I will hot glue them this time!

Today we had “Promotional Pick-Up Celebration Day” instead of our annual Honors & Awards Ceremony. Students picked up their medals, ribbons, certificates, belongings, and some treats and rode down the car pool lane right into summer break! It was so hard for me not to jump in and squeeze each one of these sweet kiddos! 🤗☹️ ❤️ @ Birmingham City Schools

I believe Counting Collections are valuable and belong in every K-2 classroom! Many mathematical ideas develop through Counting Collections such as:

✅One to one correspondence: saying one number name for each object counted.

✅Cardinality: The last number said is the total amount of objects.

✅Relative size: Which is bigger?

✅Base 10 structure: How do these numbers (written and verbal) go together?

✅Efficiency and accuracy and counting: How can I group objects to count and record more efficiently?

✅Representations: How do I communicate my ideas in words, numbers, and drawings?

✅Number names: What do I say?

✅Sequence of numbers: What order do the number names go in?

✅Name-symbol relation: How do I write that number? @ Birmingham City Schools
