Today, marked the fifty-three years since the declaration of Martial Law. A new generation is standing at the edge of remembrance and responsibility. As a student journalist we carry a unique responsibility – the custodians of the past and architectures of the future.

In a time when historical distortion threatens to rewrite the pain of generations as disinformation and misinformation spread, remembering it becomes an act of resistance. For this generation, silence is no longer an option. The role of the media practitioner must rise as defenders of truth. Their pens challenge silence. Their platforms amplify stories long buried. Their courage reminds us that journalism is not just about reporting but about remembering.

With their last Pag-iririmaw, BAJ 4A gathered for a memorable celebration that brimmed with enchanting stories, embodying the true spirit of being a Taga-West. Supporting the maroon college, the much-anticipated event energized the students with vibrant highlights — from the colorful parade, the lively Hugyaw Sayaw, to the Sabuwa sang mga Abilidadan, where students showcased their skills, creativity, and unity.

As the evening unfolded, the celebration reached its finale with an after-party inspired by the whimsical charm of Alice in Wonderland. The night came alive with a live band that set the mood, followed by a DJ who kept the energy soaring through a dazzling disco night.

𝐀 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: 𝐒𝐋𝐃𝐏 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

On Friday, August 29, the MC Lobby of the College of Communication came alive with energy and intention. Student leaders from across organizations and academic tracks gathered for the Localized Student Leadership Development Program (SLDP) , a day dedicated to growth, connection, and the kind of leadership that builds lasting impact.

Guided by the words of Prof. Gaitan, “𝘌𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸”, the event set a tone of collaboration and hope.

Among the attendees were four driven representatives from BAJ 4A: Mary Lynette Trio (Treasurer), Abeguil Gafate (Assistant Secretary), Dundee Balatayo (Business Manager), and Gierson Bordon, the voice behind The Mediator, the College’s official publication. Each brought their own spark, ready to learn, contribute, and represent their peers with pride.

Throughout the day, participants dove into workshops and discussions that challenged their thinking and sharpened their leadership skills. It wasn’t just about taking notes, it was about exchanging ideas, building trust, and discovering new ways to serve their communities. For many, it marked not just the end of an event, but the beginning of a renewed sense of purpose.

SLDP reminded everyone in the room that leadership isn’t defined by titles or positions. It’s about showing up, growing together, and choosing to stand beside others in pursuit of something better.
