Authentic TaeKwon-Do with title and name 👊

It’s my pleasure, and my duty, to speak out against the decision to change the name of the 24th pattern from Tong-Il to Chang-Hon.
This act goes directly against the vision and legacy of General Choi Hong Hi, the Founder of Taekwon-Do. The 24 patterns were each created to represent the 24 hours in a day — symbolizing one’s entire life devoted to Taekwon-Do and the hope of leaving a lasting contribution to humanity. Every pattern name carries deep meaning, chosen personally by General Choi to reflect Korean history, culture, and philosophy.
The 24th pattern, Tong-Il, stands for the peaceful reunification of Korea the culmination of General Choi’s life’s work and message of unity. To erase or rename it is to disregard that profound symbolism and dishonor the Founder’s intentions. Even Mrs. Choi Hong Hi herself has opposed this change, standing firmly for the preservation of her husband’s authentic art.
As practitioners and guardians of true Taekwon-Do, we must uphold the integrity of the Ch’ang-Hon system exactly as General Choi created it. The purity of Taekwon-Do must never be compromised.

Authentic Taekwon-Do Australia / Main Do-Jang acts as the root of the Taekwon-Do tree. It provides structure, legitimacy, and guidance. The branch dojang’s run by instructors are like branches that extend outward, spreading the art but still drawing nourishment from the root.
👊 What the Main Do-Jang Provides
Lineage & Legitimacy – Being part of a recognized school connects instructors and students to the history of Taekwon-Do and their pioneers.
Technical Standardisation – Ensures that everyone follows the same GRADING syllabus.
Gradings & Certifications – Oversees belt promotions so they are meaningful and recognised.
Mentorship – Master Instructor provide guidance for teaching, running a club, and handling challenges.
Events & Opportunities – Offers Seminars, Camps , tournaments and access to ITF Pioneers.
Community – Creates a wider Taekwon-Do family beyond just one branch.
👊 How Branch Clubs Support the Main Do-Jang.
Branch clubs support by living out Taekwon-Do values as set out by General Choi Hong Hi in the Tenets of Taekwon-Do
👊 Courtesy (Ye Ui) – Show respect and loyalty to the Main Do-Jang and Master
👊 Integrity (Yom Chi) – Represent the art and the club honestly and fairly in all dealings.
👊 Perseverance (In Nae) – Stay committed to training and upholding standards.
👊 Self-Control (Guk Gi) – Maintain discipline within your club, showing professionalism.
👊 Indomitable Spirit (Baekjul Boolgool) – Support the main Do-Jang in challenges and show pride in the shared identity.
Practical Examples of Support
Attend and help at seminars, tournaments, and gradings.
Promote the main Do-Jang events to your students.
Follow the technical and ethical standards of the Main Do-Jang
Encourage students to respect the wider family, not just their local instructor.
Contribute with time, effort, or funds when the main Do-Jang organisers big events.
So in Taekwon-Do, the relationship is symbiotic: the main Do-Jang gives structure and legitimacy, while the branch clubs reinforce and spread Taekwon-Do values, ensuring unity and growth.

In Taekwon-Do, loyalty is deeply emphasized as one of the core moral values, tied to its philosophy and the Tenets of Taekwon-Do (Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, Indomitable Spirit). While not always listed as a separate tenet, loyalty is considered essential in Korean martial culture.
â—Ź Loyalty to Your Country
In ITF Taekwon-Do (especially as founded by General Choi Hong Hi), loyalty to one’s country and its values is highly stressed.
Practitioners are taught to develop strength not just for themselves, but to contribute to society and defend justice.
This comes from a Confucian influence in Korean culture, where patriotism and duty to one’s nation are key virtues.
â—Ź Loyalty to Your Master and Dojang
A student is expected to respect and follow their Master, trusting their knowledge and guidance.
Loyalty here doesn’t mean blind obedience — it’s about showing gratitude, staying committed, and representing your dojang with honor.
Many schools emphasize that leaving or switching schools should be done with respect and acknowledgment of your teacher’s role in your journey.
â—Ź Loyalty to Family and Community
Taekwon-Do philosophy ties martial training to family harmony and respect for elders.
Loyalty means taking care of your family, being trustworthy, and applying martial values to strengthen relationships.
Loyalty to the Art of Taekwon-Do
Practitioners are encouraged to stay true to the art’s principles: self-discipline, humility, respect, and perseverance.
It means training sincerely, not misusing your skills, and upholding Taekwon-Do’s reputation in society.
A true martial artist doesn’t seek conflict but uses loyalty to protect peace, justice, and harmony.
