John Taylor Gatto’s books were pivotal as we began homeschooling.

Are you celebrating 🇺🇸 America 250 in your homeschool?
What are you doing?

20/06/2026

Exactly!

As a child of the 70s I can attest to this.

If you don't have this book, you need it! It is a beloved read aloud memory from our homeschooling days -- still available in print now, but vintage copies are fun, too!

What is your favorite part of the summer?

Many of you offered prayers for my son following his surgical palate expansion last week. 21 year old bodies are so healthy and strong!

The first few days of recovery were tough. He had intense pain in his face and just felt rotten. At the same time, I could actually see his palate had expanded, which is crazy to even think about!

His post op appointment went very well - I am so thankful we’re with the Oral and Maxillofacial Clinic at Emory. They are top notch!

We are 8 days out - and Grant will be uncomfortable for a while, but he did manage to eat a little bit of real food tonight - mom’s lasagna for the win! 🥇 My berry beet smoothie has been a hit, and I do think ice cream has been consumed. 😉

(I also think he may never want to eat applesauce again, as that was the only way to get meds down during the first few days.)

No one wants to see their child (no matter their age) in pain, but this is one of those life experiences that will just shape the man he is to be. I’m proud of his faith and determination throughout this process - and it’s not over yet!

😉 And - you all would be proud of me. I tried not to “mother” too much - but still let him know I was there for him. We walk a fine line as parents of young adults, and I am learning daily!
