More than a Chinese language class—it's a place for children to grow.

At Tzu Chi Academy, Atlanta, every Sunday offers a thoughtfully designed curriculum, where language, character, and culture come together to support each child's growth.

📚 Chinese Language
Students are placed by age and proficiency to build confidence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through engaging, interactive learning.

Through character education and everyday etiquette, students learn gratitude, respect, kindness, and responsibility.

🎨 Enrichment Class (Choose One)
Guzheng, Chinese Chess, Chinese Yo-Yo, Arts & Crafts, or Kung Fu—allowing children to experience the richness of Chinese culture while developing focus, confidence, and perseverance.

「語言只是入口，文化才是歸處。」

很多人問我，為什麼選擇教華語文？
我越來越覺得，孩子們在這裡學到的，不只是中文，更是一份文化認同，一種面對世界的自信。

很多時候，海外的華語教育像一場「週末快閃」——鈴聲一響，課程結束，大家便各自散去。租來的教室，無法留下任何文化的痕跡。

慈濟卻不同。

這裡擁有自己的校舍，文化得以真正落地生根。從牆上的書畫，到走廊裡的展示；從師生之間溫和有禮的問候，到菩提葉上的墨香，一點一滴，都在無聲地傳遞著中華文化的底蘊。

我常鼓勵孩子：
「世界上十五億人都可以用中文，說明中文沒那麼難，只是它不同而已。」

如果有一天，一個原本不願意走進教室的孩子，因為一堂課、一個故事，而開始喜歡中文，開始認識自己的文化，我想，那就是教育最美好的時刻。

教育，不只是教會孩子一種語言，更是陪伴孩子找到與文化的連結，建立面對未來的內在力量。

“Language is the doorway. Culture is where we truly belong.”

People often ask me why I chose to teach Mandarin.
The more I teach, the more I believe that what children gain here is far more than a language. They develop a sense of cultural identity and the confidence to engage with the world.

Too often, heritage language education overseas feels like a weekend stopover. The bell rings, class ends, and everyone goes their separate ways. In rented classrooms, it's difficult for culture to leave a lasting impression.

Tzu Chi is different.

With our own campus, culture has a place to take root. From the calligraphy on the walls and the student displays in the hallways, to the respectful greetings exchanged between teachers and students, and even the fragrance of ink on Bodhi leaves, every detail quietly reflects the richness of Chinese culture.

I often encourage my students by saying:
“More than 1.5 billion people use Chinese around the world. That means it isn't impossible to learn—it’s simply different.”

If one day a child who once resisted coming to class begins to enjoy learning Chinese because of a lesson or a story, and through that journey starts to connect with their own cultural heritage, then I believe that is one of the most beautiful moments in education.

Education is not simply about teaching a language. It is about helping children build a meaningful connection with their culture and nurturing the inner strength to face the future with confidence.

🌿 一場 Open House，一場教育理念的交流

上週六，亞特蘭大慈濟人文學校迎來了許多第一次認識我們的新家庭。

從報到時的輕鬆交流、老師與家長熱絡的對話，到孩子們好奇地探索校園，每一個角落都充滿了笑聲，也開啟了許多美好的交流。

活動一開始，我們分享了慈濟人文學校的教育理念。在 AI 快速改變世界的今天，我們相信教育不只是知識的傳授，更重要的是培養孩子的品格、同理心、責任感，以及面對未來挑戰的穩定力。

華語文，是孩子認識文化、連結家庭、培養自信的起點；而人文教育，則陪伴孩子一步一步成長為更好的自己。

接著，家長們走進各個教室，與老師面對面交流，了解不同年齡層的華語課程、人文課，以及多元的才藝課程。每一位老師都分享了自己的教學理念，也讓家長更了解孩子在慈濟人文學校的學習旅程。

活動最後，我們一起參觀慈濟會所，認識慈濟基金會在慈善、醫療、教育與人文領域的努力，也讓大家更了解慈濟人文學校背後所承載的教育使命。

衷心感謝每一位前來參與的家庭，也謝謝所有老師、家長與志工夥伴的用心付出，讓這場 Open House 圓滿而溫馨。
