Whew, what a last week of school and we kicked off the last day with Staff vs Students kickball. Dr. Schewe, we will miss you next year! Mrs. Boice’s class won the coveted Golden Sneaker Award for best sportsmanship. 5th graders had an action packed week at Main Event and showing off their talents. We had a first grader step into the role as principal. And we said “happy trails” to some great teachers! Don’t forget—once a Tiger, always a Tiger! 🐾 🐾 🐾

What’s the day like of an elementary school nurse? It’d be difficult for Nurse Nixon to give an answer since one day could be very different from the next! That’s why we love and appreciate her—she’s always ready to help whatever student needs her with a smile. Happy School Nurse Day, Nurse Nixon! Thanks for allllll the ice packs 😜

There’s been A LOT going on in Mrs. Petry’s music room! The first graders put on a musical performance “The Very Lonely Firefly” that they helped create. Mrs. Petry had a guest music teacher—Ms. Harris from 5th grade! Kindergarteners taught their parents how to play instruments while keeping a steady beat, playing high and low pitches, and long and short rhythm patterns.

Our Tigers participated in the first 5th Grade Service Day at this week. This is a change from the legacy project done in the past, as our students will leave their marks on the school by their kindness paw prints.

The front of the school by the mural wall is in the processing of being turned into a community garden. Students weeded and planted flowers! Kindness rocks were also created to liven up schools grounds. The butterfly garden and area for the Tiger Picnic were cleared out and the nature trail was cleaned.

Students wrote letters to incoming Kindergarteners to let them know about our school and to get them excited to be a Hanna Woods Tiger!

Students put together Blessing Bags that included socks, travel size deodorant, sunscreen, chapstick, toothbrush, and toothpaste. This bags will go a local shelter for unhoused people. Students also made placements for nursing home residents.

For Project Linus, students created tie blankets to be sent to children in the US who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need.

Students also helped with lunch duties!
