We are very happy to share that different AEDEI members have contributed to the publication Companion to the Contemporary Irish Novel (Syracuse University Press), edited by Kathleen Costello-Sullivan, Derek Hand, and Neil Murphy.

Since the 1980s, Ireland has gone through a profound social, demographic, and religious disruption, the impact of which has been seen across recent fiction from Irish writers. This volume traces this cultural shift and its impact by examining how modern novels have reckoned with a new conception of Irishness. Bringing together thirty scholars from across the field, Companion to the Contemporary Irish Novel offers a complete contextualized reading to study vital changes in Irish national and cultural identity. We are very pleased to share with you the Call for Contributions for an upcoming edited volume titled Beyond Victimhood: New Perspectives on Memory, Violence and Representation in Irish Studies, to be published in Peter Lang’s prestigious Irish Studies series. The volume is edited by Dr. Olga Fernández-Vicente and Dr. Richard Jorge (University of the Basque Country / EHU) and builds on the discussions initiated during our recent 25th Anniversary AEDEI International Conference in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Please note that this call is open to all scholars working on these themes (both established and early-career researchers); it is not limited to conference participants.

We are pleased to share the CFP for the International Conference "The Social Dynamics of the Anglo-Hispanic Literary and Cultural Exchange", which will take place at the University of La Rioja from 21 to 23 October 2026.
This international conference invites researchers to explore the complex and dynamic networks that have facilitated the Anglo-Hispanic literary and cultural exchange over centuries. Moving beyond the study of isolated individual authors, the conference adopts a process-oriented approach to delve into the networks of cultural sociability that enabled the movement of texts and ideas between the Anglo and Hispanic worlds.

Topics that papers might address could include (but are not limited to):

Dear AEDEI members,
It is a great honor to address you as the newly elected President of the Association. Taking the occasion of the Bloomsday celebrations today, I wanted to thank you for your trust and support.

As you know, our dear association has a long history of promoting Irish culture, literature, and history in Spain, which we celebrated recently in our annual conference, in Vitoria.

My deepest gratitude to the former presidents and the outgoing board members. Their dedication, vision, and hard work have built a strong and lasting legacy that has truly shaped AEDEI. We have also achieved a great positioning of our journal Estudios Irlandeses (https://www.estudiosirlandeses.org), thanks to all its editorial teams. I would like to convey my heartfelt gratitude and admiration to them for helping build such a prestigious academic standing. I am also deeply grateful to the board members for stepping up to guide our next chapter.

Our goal is to build upon this strong foundation. Together, we will expand our academic reach, support early-career researchers, and strengthen our national and international connections.

I look forward to working closely with all the AEDEI community to shape a vibrant future for Irish Studies.
