Nasarawa State University's University Innovation Pod (UniPod) has pioneered a groundbreaking initiative to integrate indigenous languages into artificial intelligence (AI) systems, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The initiative, 'Let's Make AI Speak My Mother Language,' is a transformative training session that highlights the university's commitment to cultural preservation through modern technology, held on February 21st, 2026, coinciding with International Mother Language Day. Led by Dr. Aisha A. Kana, the session trained students across various faculties on the use of YARNGPT, an innovative AI application designed to translate complex English content into several Nigerian languages, including Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, and various indigenous Nasarawa languages. By enabling AI to communicate in these mother tongues, the UniPod aims to empower local communities, including miners, farmers, and small business owners, to access critical technical knowledge and market their products more effectively.

Dr. Aisha A. Kana emphasized the importance of mother tongues as the foundation of identity and history, urging students to utilize AI to disseminate local information and promote ethical living.

The Deputy Director of the UniPod, Dr. Vincent Paul, highlighted the significance of linguistic diversity, stating that preserving and promoting mother tongues safeguards culture and fosters mutual respect among diverse peoples.

The integration of indigenous languages into AI systems is expected to drive growth in sectors such as mining, health advocacy, and agriculture.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment from students to act as ambassadors for their mother tongues within their academic fields, with the Coordinator of the Students Championship Committee expressing gratitude for the impactful session.

Nasarawa State University, Keffi, announces adjusted closing hours for the Holy Month of Ramadan. The official closing times will be as follows:
Monday to Thursday, 2:00 p.m.,
and Fridays, 1:00 p.m.

This arrangement takes effect from the commencement of the Ramadan fast and remains in force until the end of the Ramadan period.
The University Management extends warm wishes to all Muslim faithful for a blessed and spiritually fulfilling Ramadan and prays that Almighty Allah accepts your prayers and supplications.

NSUK Vice-Chancellor Attends ICSDI 2026 in Riyadh to Advance Sustainability Goals

The Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, participated in the 3rd International Conference on Sustainability: Developments and Innovations (ICSDI 2026), held from 8 to 12 February 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Organised by the College of Engineering at Prince Sultan University, the conference convened leading academics, researchers, and policymakers under the theme “Turning Vision into a Sustainable Reality” to develop practical, innovative solutions for global sustainability challenges.

Professor Liman’s attendance formed part of NSUK’s strategic benchmarking initiative to strengthen its institutional sustainability framework and expand international academic partnerships. She engaged in high-level discussions on sustainable institutional models, research collaboration, and knowledge exchange.

A key focus was the exploration of partnership opportunities with Prince Sultan University and other global institutions, particularly in faculty exchange programmes, joint research initiatives, and innovation-driven projects.

The Vice-Chancellor presented NSUK’s “Homegrown Solutions” model, showcasing locally developed approaches to sustainability and contributing African perspectives to the international development discourse.

University management anticipates that the insights and connections gained will significantly advance NSUK’s Green Campus initiative and accelerate its transformation into a sustainable, globally competitive institution.

This international engagement reaffirms NSUK’s commitment to forging strategic global partnerships and integrating innovative ideas that will propel its sustainability agenda forward.

The Institute of Strategic and Development Communication (ISDEVCOM), Nasarawa State University, Keffi, has announced the appointment of Dr. James Daniel Chikada as Acting Director, effective in the coming days.

Dr. Chikada succeeds Professor Emmanuel Dandaura, the Foundation Executive Director, who has provided exemplary leadership since the Institute's establishment, guiding its intellectual development and institutional growth.

In an official circular addressed to the Institute's scholars, alumni, and resource persons, Professor Dandaura commended Dr. Chikada as a dedicated and longstanding contributor to ISDEVCOM's vision and programmes. Since the Institute's inception, Dr. Chikada has served as a Resource Person, consistently delivering academic rigour, insightful contributions, and professional commitment to its training and scholarly activities.

Professor Dandaura highlighted Dr. Chikada's deep understanding of ISDEVCOM's core philosophy, including its interdisciplinary approach, emphasis on development communication, and dedication to strategic relevance. This appointment ensures leadership continuity and institutional stability during a critical phase of maturity and focus.

Expressing appreciation for the unwavering support of scholars, researchers, facilitators, alumni, and partners throughout his tenure, Professor Dandaura emphasized that institutions thrive through collective effort rather than leadership alone. He called on the ISDEVCOM community to extend full cooperation and support to Dr. Chikada in his new role, noting that leadership transitions serve as opportunities to demonstrate institutional resilience and unity.

The Institute reaffirmed its alignment with the broader vision of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, whose administration continues to foster an enabling environment for academic excellence, innovation, and growth.
