🏜Vancomycin serum trough concentrations levels should be drawn just before the fourth scheduled dose. It’s considered the most practical method for monitoring efficacy when the pathogen is susceptible.

🏔Vancomycin peak concentrations levels from blood specimens obtained 30 to 60 minutes after drug administration. It’s not routinely monitored in clinical practice.

9 Common Sign and Symptoms for Clostridium Difficile ...

1️⃣ Watery diarrhea is a result of the killing of the cells lining the colon, causing inflammation.

2️⃣ Abdominal Pain or Cramps is an early symptom that occurs with diarrhea and is associated with tenderness.

3️⃣ Nausea is a generalized symptom that is likely to be present early in a Clostridium difficile colitis infection and it may contribute to dehydration.

4️⃣ Loss of Appetite may lead to generalized weakness and an inability to function normally.

5️⃣ Fever can reach 105 degrees Fahrenheit (40.5 degrees Celsius) or more, indicating severe infection. At this stage, the white cell count may be very high.

6️⃣ Dehydration as a result of profuse diarrhea, there is a risk of dehydration secondary to fluid and electrolyte losses, especially if the fluid intake has been poor. This also may cause low blood pressure and a rapid heart rate.

7️⃣ Abdominal Swelling is a late symptom and another indication of the progression of the inflammatory process in the colon. It is likely to be associated with increased tenderness. At this point, intensive care treatment will be necessary.

8️⃣ Kidney Failure is an advanced stage of the disease. If dehydration goes untreated, the patient is at risk of developing kidney failure.

9️⃣ Toxic Mega Colon - is a Life-Threatening Inflammation of the Colon where the colon becomes very distended and is unable to pass stools or gas. It will be at risk of rupturing, would discharge stool and bacteria into the abdominal cavity, causing peritonitis.

Nosocomial infections are those infections acquired during a hospitalization or in another health care facility and that is not present or in the incubation process at the time of admission.

✅ Some immunosuppressive diseases and medications weaken the immune system making it more vulnerable to acquiring infections.

✅ Many of the infections acquired in health care facilities are transmitted by care personnel, who often fail to practice appropriate standard precautions (handwashing and glove change in patient contact).

✅ Many institutions have containers with alcohol or sanitizing solutions at the entrance of the rooms. These solutions are ineffective against Clostridium difficile.
