Often women and girls are confined to fulfilling roles as mothers, wives and caretakers. Gender norms position girls as caretakers leading to gender inequality in how roles are distributed at the household level. This can also result in a lack of education due to the restriction of outside opportunities as there is constant demand to cater for chores at households. So, as CARE International in Uganda and the Makerere University School of Women and Gender Studies launch Phase II of the Eastern Africa Learning Collaborative (EALC) Project on April 27th.
