Introducing Jen 🏺 Our newest teacher here at Auburn Clay Arts. We love the precision and originality of her work, as well as her warm demeanor and teaching style. She has years of experience with hand building both in the US and abroad. Her artwork is influenced by her life on the coast, her earth sciences career, and the cultural traditions of her family. You can find her in the studio on Fridays, and her 5-week course will be Friday mornings beginning 9/15. Check out our website for more information.
Excited to share our second annual Spring pottery sale - just in time for Mother’s Day. Exciting news… we’re adding a new open studio session on Friday evenings from 6-9 PM starting this week! This is a Ken appreciation post! Ken is our MVP studio tech who mixes most of the glazes we use, organizes stuff like this formerly frightening jumble of kiln furniture, and expertly loads and unloads both kilns. He’s also a great potter and the maker of the ever popular chicken mugs. Thanks Ken, don’t know what we’d do without you!

We are SO excited about this workshop! Folks have been clamoring for this material, and Robyn is a fantastic teacher. She will teach surface decoration techniques including mishima, sgraffito, underglaze work with stamps, stencils, and silkscreen, as well as watercolor painting with underglaze. We will be decorating green and bisqued clay, and students will take home tiles as well as a small decorated tray (will be ready for pickup approximately 1-2 weeks after workshop). We are thrilled to finally announce our new intermediate wheel class with Jon! This is for students with some experience on the wheel who want to take it to the next level. Spring Workshop: Leaf Platters and Bowls with Pat Hall. This is a two-day workshop taking place at our studio on 5/22 and 6/5. Cost $80 per person, all materials provided. We will use freshly cut spring leaves as our templates for crafting platters or small bowls - use leaves from our gardens or bring your own! Excited to share our first big studio purchase! A pug mill will allow us to recycle and reuse our clay, among other things. Our vision for the studio is to use local clay bodies for our courses and recycle 100% of our scraps 🍃 ♻️
Glaze mixing day! The ceramics lexicon is full of very descriptive words - for example, this mixing process is called “blunging”. Blending + plunging? 🤷🏻♀️

We have added an evening open studio session on Wednesdays from 6-9 pm, to accommodate folks who have a hard time making it to the studio during our daytime hours. Open studio time is for self-directed practice and is free for current students. We have open studio memberships and packages available as well for non-students.
