Hey everyone! It's been an incredible honor to run this page for the past 2 years. You've all become a part of our family as you watched me grow as a mother and an educator and our children blossom into the amazing kiddos they are. I cant thank you enough for sticking around for these years!

But, as so much growth has taken place, especially in my heart, it's time for a little change. (insta's alogrithms dont help either... ).

I want not only the feel and style of my content to come across a little different, I especially want my attitudes and education to shift. Even I, who always takes pride in an open heart and mind, have learned there ARE ways that I can be MORE accepting, more understanding and overall more considerate of other mindsets, ideas and situations. It's also just generally time for a fresh start, more mindful posts and a better connection with our education.

In all, it's time for me to take a different approach. I hope you will all cross-over to this new page and new adventure with us. There will still be all of the education, lessons, adventures, and oh so much more nature --- but BETTER this time around!

Reading "Where the Red Feen Grows" as a child may be a wonderful thing, but reading it again in adulthood, especially as a mother, is another experience entirely. Especially if you're a momma to a little boy.

I'm so blessed to have gotten to read this to my children, especially from my childhood book itself. I was so touched in a different way this time, as I felt and saw for the first time momma's deep love for her Billy. Through my aged and worn eyes, I saw this book was just as much about a mother's deep, sincere love and the pain of having to let your boy grow, as it was about the throws of country boyhood. I felt deep in my heart the worry Billy's mom felt as he took the dogs into the forest every night, the pain of the grief she felt for her son who had to watch such an awful death at a young age, and the pains of a mother watching her sons heart break over Little Ann and Old Dan. Pain, grief, unending fear and mountainous pride poured from the pages in these short interactions, but the message resounding. And this time, I dropped tears on the pages as I read to my kids not for Billy, but finally for his momma.

A book so beautifully written has changed my life twice. I will never forget these special times in my life as I raise my children and have these moments of inflection. I pray so much that these moments stay strong with my kids too. 🖤

Our next location for our little series on local places that help make our homeschool what it is...... The Arboretum!

The most magical place for adventures and SO MUCH learning. The heart and soul that has gone into making the Abortetum what it is for the community is apparent as soon as you step into the gardens.

Lovingly tended (and individually labeled!), each and every plant, tree and beyond becomes a learning experience. Especially under their several high powered microscopes around the childrens center that allow you to see onto, into and all around the beautiful plants.

Which leads me more into Childhoods Gate, where we have spent hours upon hours exploring and still have not seen it all. From the humongous limestone cave, to creek weaving, fossil finding, scavenger hunting, instrument playing, the magic abounds. There's peep holes for bird watching, toadstool seating for book reading and many little hidden gems in the bushes. Not to mention the educational greenhouse, community gardens, and the occasional Paw-Paw tasting (which we loved!).

I could write an entire book about what there is to learn here and even more about how much our family appreciates such a magical place. Especially one that's entirely free of charge.

If you're ever in the State College area, do be sure to make a quick trip to the arboretum. No matter your age or what degree of nature-loving you are, you will not be disappointed. ⭐️🖤🌳🌸🌻🐛

Hey friends!! I have lots on the end-of-the-year checklist for the Indigo Adventures page (look out for it to become "The Owens Adventures"... because it just makes more sense 😅🤣), and one of those things is SHOUTING OUT some businesses and organizations in our community that have helped to make our school what it has been this past year.

My hope is to show appreciation and love to all the people and places important to us, and to also drum up traffic to these places and inspire some community members to check out some of our favorite spots!

First on the list is, The Clubhouse! This new video game PALACE in our town Philipsburg,Pa is the coolest hangout spot. Outfitted with gaming computers, alllll the systems, arcade games, pool tables, an infinity table and the coolest decor in town, this place is the perfect way to spend an afternoon. (I'll try to add some video in the comments!)

We were fortunate enough to be first in line for their ribbon cutting ceremony (and to chat the ear off of poor Mayor John!) and are excited to go back again! The Clubhouse also hosts all sorts of amazing events, like COD tournaments, parents night out, birthday parties and more! Definitely check out The Clubhouse in Philipsburg (Front Street, by the Chinese takeout!) and show this awesome family some love. 🖤🌟🎮

Happy Friday friends!!

We are recapping the end to another awesome homeschool week! 📚📐

Grayson entered the 3rd book of his math series and flew through this week's addend reversal, "counting on" practice and doubles addition. He started a new ELA cirriculum and next week we start a new spelling schedule.

Serenity demolished the end of ratios and proportions in Geometry and moved on to algebraic equations. We've been loving the new writing cirriculum we started 2 weeks ago for her as well! Ren also learned about Mercator projection maps in Geography 🌎

All 3 kiddos learned about the 5 kingdoms of marine life in Marine Biology this week. We did Thanksgiving mad libs and laughed until our bellies hurt. We sang, danced and played outside for HOURS. The kids worked hard on building a new clubhouse in the back yard. We visited the park and the library and had so many enriching moments. 🖤

We are loving fall time and the beautiful weather in our part of PA. Definitely soaking up all of the sunshine and enjoying being together as a family. 🧡🍂🧡🍂

My students have been right back to the grind this week!

Yesterday, we got some new sight words and letters for the younger ones, created some self-care charts as a class, did group projects, started a marine biology unit 🐬🪸, learned about the scientific method and did our first big experiment of the year testing buoyancy, read books, learned new words in ASL, and spent time outside. And of course, 2 hours of soccer in the afternoon ⚽️

Today, we started with class outside! Morning stories, leaf identifying in our collection books and marking off our self care charts were done in the front yard, welcoming the wonderful fall weather 🍂 🍁 And I can't forget the class plans we made for a fall open house and play performance!! 😀

The kids currently are perfecting front flips on the trampoline before we snuggle up in the warm house with homemade hot chocolate and a fun documentary. 🍫☕️

We'll be off to math class after, finishing up addition concepts for littles and progressing in geometry for my big girl. Then we will add letter 'Nn' to our letter books, practice some writing, play some games, prep for a book report and make time for a healthy lunch somewhere in amongst the beautiful chaos 🌟🖤🍁
