The Seymour David Steinman Memorial Lecture Series: From Hate to Tolerance

✨The Seymour D. Steinman Memorial Lecture Series is finally back in its second instalment after a long hiatus (caused by the pandemic). This Lecture Series was created in memory of my father who passed away in 2018 through the McGill School of Religious Studies.
It will be held on October 26 at 5:30 PM.

Given the continuing difficulties posed by COVID-19, the Steinman Memorial Lecture Series will resume in the Fall of 2023.

The Steinman Memorial Lecture Series, “From Hate to Tolerance: The Prevention of Extremism, Violence, Anti-Semitism & Religious Discrimination” Concludes This Week @ the McGill School of Religious Studies.

The First, Second & Third Lecture Nights were very well-attended and the presentations were highly interesting, stimulating some thought-provoking discussions between scholars and the wider public.

Night #3 of the Steinman Memorial Lecture Series was very successful! A HUGE THANK YOU to all of those who attended and participated in the thought-provoking discussions on Anti-Semitism, the Law, Religious Visibility & Hate Speech. Your presence last night truly meant a lot to me and I know my father would be happy to see such a meaningful endeavour coming to life

The problem of white supremacist ideology and violence is both rampant and insidious. Thankfully the authorities were able to prevent another deadly attack! This news demonstrates that this sickness in our society is not going away anytime soon; awareness and proper education are essential if we are to eradicate these forces of hate.

FBI arrests alleged white supremacist accused of planning to bomb a Pueblo synagogue Federal authorities arrested a 27-year-old accused white supremacist who allegedly planned to bomb a synagogue in Colorado over the weekend.

The tragic events that unfolded last year in Pittsburgh at the Tree of Life Synagogue represents yet another instance of Anti-Semitism rearing its ugly head in the Western world. Unfortunately, these attacks are on the rise in many countries and demonstrate the need for us to talk openly about extremism and violence that targets religious (and other) minorities. Events like this are in part what has inspired this Lecture Series Project that is in memory of my late father -- we must continue to engage in dialogue and raise awareness about the dangers of hateful ideologies and the power they possess to move individuals to commit violent attacks. We must approach these acts of hate and violence with the utmost seriousness, since events like this are becoming more commonplace and can occur virtually anywhere.
Rabbi Adam Scheier of the Congregation Shaar Hashomayim will be a guest speaker at the Seymour David Steinman Memorial Lecture Series and will be discussing the subject of hate and Anti-Semitism on the night of Thursday November 7.
