We are excited to announce that we are launching an exhibition from the 15th of June, right here in the heart of Skiathos old town, affectionately referred to as the neighbourhood.

This exhibition will highlight the importance of wool and the use of local natural textiles embracing the past and blending it with the future.

See what we are doing to reintroduce the use of native wool as a new economic sustainable alternative to imports!

You will be able to visit the private collection and museum not normally open to the public.

After all the sheep were sheared yesterday, we had a beer and enjoyed some lamb from the spit with our friends.

Today, I moved the fleece to the shade of an old olive tree before sorting begins.

Now, the big question is: should I wash the fleece in the sea and hang it to dry on the fence, just like we used to do back in the day? It would be a fun day in the sun!

It’s always good to remember why we are doing this, because without these moments of madness, there would be no Skiathos Wool!

Here you can purchase handmade items created from wool produced from local sheep.
Purchase quality local knitting yarn and register for one of our bespoke textile workshops or simply call by to say hello.

As the weather warms up we are planning to offer longer, one-on-one weaving workshops in our
air-conditioned, renovated town house.
Putting weaving back in the home.

If you’re a beginner or an accomplished weaver we have it covered.

We are privileged to announce that our local priests have given us permission to showcase our project from the 15th June in the spiritual centre of Skiathos.
This is an exciting opportunity, bringing our project to our very own neighbourhood, more to come!

So if most of the world's clothing is made from oil — what's the alternative?

It grows on the back of a sheep. It always has.

Wool produces zero microplastics. When a synthetic garment is washed, it sheds thousands of tiny plastic particles that end up in our waterways and oceans. Wool doesn't do that. It breaks down naturally, the way nature intended.

Wool is 100% biodegradable. At the end of its life, it returns to the earth and feeds it — releasing nitrogen and other nutrients back into the soil. Polyester? It'll still be sitting in a landfill in 200 years.

Wool is part of the natural carbon cycle. Sheep eat grass, grass absorbs carbon, wool locks it in. It's not a perfect equation, but it's a living one — not a fossil one.

And here's something most people don't know: wool is the world's most recycled apparel fibre. It's been reused, repurposed, and reworn for centuries. Long before "sustainability" was a buzzword, wool farmers were already doing it.

The fibre has been there all along. We just forgot to look. 🐑

We hope to arrive for Greek Easter, This is a very important and religious date on the Greek calendar and a time to reunite with friends and family.

This is an exciting time for Skiathos Wool as we will be involved in two exhibition’s, hosted in the Monastery and the Spiritual Centre of Skiathos.

We will also be collecting our annual clip – there is always a bit of excitement and anticipation because we never know what we will get.

Along with all these activities will be offering workshops, working with textiles and local wool, here you can experience a Skiathos you probably never knew existed.

Skiathos has a forgotten past and culture that is about to unfold.

It’s half past March and it has been over a month since our last update.

Looking forward, we have a busy few months ahead of us as we focus on a core part of our project - producing yarn from native Skiathos sheep and both visiting and taking part in exhibitions.
We will soon be back in the olive groves, shearing sheep and grading wool ready for this year’s yarn production.

This is an important part of our project as we continue to gain trust and build relationships with local farmers and shepherds.

Last year’s clip produced our very first 4ply 100% Skiathos knitting yarn, now for sale in our web shop.

It’s February already and Skiathos Wool has a busy year ahead.

Here is a sneak peek at something we are currently working on.

Later in the year we are planning another textile exhibition to showcase our project to the public.
This time, we have chosen the Spiritual Centre of Skiathos in the heart of the old town as our venue.

We will be also supporting the Cultural Association in a collaboration at the Evangelistria monastery.
Both exhibitions aim to raise awareness of Skiathos’ rich history with handmade textiles and natural materials.

To support these exhibitions, we will be running textile workshops at various locations. You will be able to book a taster session or a longer workshop.

To mark the anniversary of our Bourtzi exhibition, Skiathos Wool is calling for local residents to join our community-supporting initiative.

Ahead of our summer programme, Skiathos Wool invites you to take part in a weaving project.

This initiative will run from late January until the summer tourist season and, if successful, will extend into a winter programme allowing seasonal workers access from September to May.

Our mission is to make weaving and working with wool an everyday experience, whether you’re doing it at home or in our workshop.

We will provide all the equipment, materials and expert tuition, regardless of your skill level or experience. Our modern, compact and portable equipment will get you started.

This initiative aims to encourage students to explore weaving and modern techniques without the initial setup costs.

We understand that weaving is not for everyone. If you find it no longer suits your schedule or interests, you can simply return the equipment.

This initiative will also include an exchange programme where participants can upgrade their equipment as they progress.

We will be there with you - every step of the way.

We are bearing the initial costs of equipment, so we need to know how many participants we might have.

Για να σηματοδοτήσουμε την επέτειο της έκθεσης Μπούρτζι, το Skiathos Wool καλεί τους κατοίκους της περιοχής να συμμετάσχουν στην πρωτοβουλία μας για την υποστήριξη της κοινότητας.

Πριν από το καλοκαιρινό μας πρόγραμμα, το Skiathos Wool σας προσκαλεί να συμμετάσχετε σε ένα έργο ύφανσης.
