The Comprehensible Input Content You Crave
Putting this out here for my friends before I start e-mailing colleges in the US. I'm looking for ONE person who wants to come teach English in China. After having been in China from 2016-2021 and returning just a few days ago, I have to say that, living in China is AMAZING!
Some of the benefits to living/working here are:
-Language: LEARN CHINESE! If you've ever wanted to learn Chinese, living in China is the perfect place to do it! You basically get free "learning opportunities" every day!
-Paid for Apartment: If you're living in America right now and paying rent...You know that this is huge! You get to pick your apartment, and it's paid for! (And these aren't apartments with roommates. The apartment would be all yours!)
-Free Delicious Food: If you're working, you're eating. Homemade fried rice, potatoes and meat, vegetables gifted cakes and sweet bread, cookies, Chinese bread, noodles, coffee, toast, jam. There's always some treat available. PLUS coffee and OF COURSE tea (You're in China)!
-Money/Cost of living: Your starting salary will be 20,000 RMB which is about $2,857 dollars. Now let me put that in perspective for you. Your apartment WILL BE PAID FOR. A bottle of water is about 0.30 cents. The bus costs about 0.10 cents. If you cook your own meals you could live off about $120 a MONTH! Depending on where you like to go out, you're getting meals on average for about $2.50-$6.
-Access: This job would be in Dalian which is in the northeast part of China. From here it's just a 1.5 hour flight to S. Korea, and only 3 hours to Tokyo. Also, you have ALL OF CHINA haha. Not to mention how much closer you are to Bali, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, etc.!
The Job: You'd be teaching kids English with an age range between 5-18 years old. By teaching English you are giving each student you teach innumerable opportunities in their future. They'll be able to travel the world without fear. Move abroad if they wish. They'll have better job opportunities inside and outside of China. Teaching English does NOT require that you know any Chinese at all. We give you all the tools and training you need to be successful and you get to be creative and add your own style to each class!
Taxes: After living in China for a year, you basically don't need to pay taxes in America because you don't pass the "substantial presence test" so your tax home becomes China. And that money I talked about earlier, that's AFTER TAX! (NOT a tax consultant or advisor, please check on your own)
Tipping: I've worked in food service and I loved MAKING tips, but I hate paying them, and in recent years tipping has gotten out of control! So, if you're like me and just want the price to be the price, then China is the place for you.
Sales Tax: On the above tipping note, in addition to there being no tipping, the PRICE IS THE PRICE. If it says it's 15 Yuan, it's 15 Yuan. If it says 30 yuan, it's 30 yuan. I don't know if the tax is "built in" but I'm happy that I don't have to try to figure out 7% of whatever I'm buying every time I buy something.
Disclaimer: You need a bachelors degree to apply. Just government regulations.
I have a TON more reasons why working here in China would be a dream for some Americans. If you have questions or anything send me a message and I'm looking forward to working with you here in China! :D

When learning a new language there are a thousand ways to go about it and hundreds of different methodologies.
But, if you want to learn a language as close as possible to the way you learned your first; there's only one way.
You need to first learn through life experience, where EXPERIENCE and HAPPENINGS come first and the language is "just there in the background".
You need to work on UNDERSTANDING for a long time (not long when compared to your first language though).
THEN you can start speaking.
THEN you can start reading.
THEN you can start writing.

Spend more time on listening if you want to be good. Spend ALL your time on listening if you want to be great (at least for the first 1500 hours)

The natural order is Listening----------------------------------->Speaking----------->Reading-------->Writing
You'll notice Listening takes the most time...Because it does...And you'll also notice Listening and Speaking aren't happening at the same time in the beginning.
