Fifteen students graduated on Wednesday, July 15, from Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s (GNTC) Electrical Lineworker program during a ceremony at GNTC’s Polk County Campus in Rockmart.

The students experienced a vigorous, 10-week training program that included donated equipment such as trucks, poles and climbing equipment, as well as hands-on expertise from GNTC instructors. Upon completing the program, students received four certificates of completion for Electrical Lineworker, a restricted Class A Commercial Truck Driving (CDL) license, OSHA 10-Hour General Industry and an overall certificate verifying 395 training hours completed. The program is offered through GNTC’s Office of Economic Development.

The Workforce Development Board of Northwest Georgia, Inc. and the Council of Chief Elected Officials of Northwest Georgia announce that the "Worksource Northwest Georgia Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Local Plan Update, June 2026" will be available for review by close of business on June 8, 2026 and open for comments through July 7, 2026." The Plan may be reviewed on-line at www.careerdepot.org or a copy may be obtained by contacting Northwest Georgia Regional Commission, Attention Terri Morgan, P.O. The U.S. Department of Labor awarded Georgia Tech’s Safety, Health Environmental Services (SHES) with a $950,000 grant to develop and provide trainings that promote warehouse safety to small and medium-sized businesses.

SHES is now offering free 1-hour and 4-hour safety trainings at locations across Georgia. The trainings, which focus on preventing injury and illness due to workplace exposures in warehouse environments, are open to private employees and employers in small and medium-size businesses that perform or manage warehousing activities. There will also be several courses offered to the public.

Free onsite warehouse safety training for distribution centers, food processing facilities, logistics companies, manufacturers, and warehouses!

Protect your team and reduce hazards with expert-led training in partnership with Georgia Tech Occupational Safety and Health.

Choose from one-hour or four-hour sessions covering:
✔️ Common hazards and prevention
✔️ Chemical and thermal stressors
✔️ Ergonomics best practices
✔️ Forklift/powered industrial truck safety
✔️ Safe material and package handling
