Looking for something to do this weekend? Here is an idea from the fourth years on their paeds block.

As part of our fine motor skills development programme. We thought we’d share an activity that:
- Improves your child’s fine motor skills
- Improves their understanding of basic concepts like: colours, numbers and counting.
- Bilateral integration
- Encouraging different pinches and grasps which are needed for handwriting

To make this activity a bit more challenging you can get your child to help cut out and stick on the coloured circles.
These spoons can also be used to assist the child with basic subtraction and addition calculations.

Yesterday day was world health day and the theme this year was to build a fairer, healthier world.

As occupational therapists, we believe that what people do impacts their health. Occupations, or what people do, can ensure that people live meaningful, healthy lives but can also be harmful to people.

As OT's we believe that all people have the right to meet their basic needs, develop their personal capacities, skills, and identities, cope with the demands of their context, and realise their aspirations. If people can do this, they can experience meaning and experience health holistically.

Unfortunately, not everyone has these opportunities. We, therefore, advocate that all people have the opportunity to engage in meaningful occupations!

We know that Easter has come and gone but while we still have some chocolate eggs left over, we thought we’d share an activity that you can use to improve your child’s fine motor skills to prep for handwriting.

This activity will include many “building blocks” that develop writing readiness, for example, bilateral integration, hand-eye coordination, and crossing the midline.

Step 1: collect all the tools and materials required to complete this activity as shown in the picture.
Step 2: print out or create your own outline of an Easter egg with different patterns or shapes that you can stick your different shapes pieces of paper onto.
Step 3: stick the different shaped pieces of coloured paper as shown or according to the outline you printed or created.

To make the activity more difficult, you may use tweezers to pick up and stick the different shaped pieces of paper onto the outlined egg.

We hope you have fun decorating your Easter egg! 🐣🐰
