I’m always delighted when students confirm their Black belt qualification. Seeing Laura do this as a Junior, was even more special. Congratulations Laura!!

Some members of our Heiko Ryu community may not realise that as well as being a school of Goju Ryu karate, we are also a registered branch of Whooping / Singing Crane gongfu (the major precursor to our Goju Ryu).

Two of our dojo seniors have just returned from a major Tournament / Conference in Yong Chun (the birthplace of Crane in China). Congratulations Daniel and Anne, for winning Gold and Silver in their respective categories!

The last three students to recently grade at our Keysborough dojo are featured. Jovitta has made such an encouraging and happy start to her karate, while Jessith and Daniel have steadily progressed through blue belt and now to their green obi. Congratulations all!

AND… two days later at Keysborough dojo, the remaining cohort of upgraded students. This time we have ani deshi Laura and me as bookends, with Manny and Akhand as older “tall timber” between us in the back row, plus some great students Vihan, Ellie, Wahenoor and Joanna at the front. In case you haven’t noticed (🤪) our classes are a cosmopolitan blend of origins, all cooperating to help each other progress.

One thing I have noted, which I share with the students, is that INTENSE COOPERATION between each other is the pathway to excellence, regardless of whether the club is a karate dojo, a sumo school or a boxing stable.

A quick catch-up featuring promotions from May. I think this is the first time we included Laura, the club ani deshi (“older sibling”), who has been such a valuable help in progressing others - highlighting the training values of mutual obligation, caring and respect. Next to her is the training group of Lorraine, Senara, Vihaan, Japneet, and Amir.

Our Glen Waverley dojo crew on Tuesdays. Bigger group, and just as keen. Congratulations on your grading! Going to… front row seated L-R are Prabath, Arhanth, Magnus, Siddharth, Omisha, and Jayden. Kneeling is Ayaan, Chaviv, Max, and Soumya. Mid row standing are Madison, Richard, Raphael, Elliott, Thisumi and Akira. And finally the older back row students are Saynthan, Amaey, Aryaa, Deeksha, and Georgia. Super CONGRATULATIONS to you all for your continued progress!

At long last, we’re baaack!! and recognising the achievement milestones of our Juniors. Here is a selection of recently graded students from our Tuesday Keysborough class.
First, I want to recognize ani deshi (Older Sibling) Laura for the valued assistance she gives to her less experienced dojo members. Congratulations to Viaan, Japneet, Amir and Sarish (front row) and Lorraine, Sanara (and I guess, me too) in the back. Gambatte kudasai! (Keep up your good efforts!)

Well, we had a “photographic hiatus” last term, but we’re Baaack now! Congratulations to Senan and Japneet for achieving their second grading level. 👏
