π¨ METRO VANCOUVER TRANSIT FUNDING WARNING! π¨π¦
TransLink is warning that Metro Vancouver could face unavoidable transit service and road investment cuts without a sustainable long-term funding solution.
According to TransLink's October 2 announcement:
π BC has committed to enabling a new revenue source in 2027, subject to legislative approval.
π° The new funding is expected to generate at least $112 MILLION annually when fully implemented.
β½ TransLink says average fuel consumption per vehicle has dropped 45% since 2002, reducing its fuel-tax revenue.
β οΈ Current funding covers services only until the end of 2027. Without a long-term solution, transit service reductions and road investment cuts could become unavoidable.
But the big question is: WHO SHOULD PAY FOR THE FUTURE OF TRANSIT IN METRO VANCOUVER?
Should the government increase funding, introduce a new transportation tax, or find another solution?
