As students work on their activities list for college applications, they ask us if online courses are considered as extracurricular activities Here are our two cents.

Colleges aren’t necessarily concerned about whether your extracurriculars occurred in person or online. They’re going to be more interested in whether your extracurriculars support your profile as a student and show true dedication to your interests and passions.

Colleges will primarily view those activities as an extra source of insight into you as an applicant. So if you are interested to take any courses that can help you delve deeper into your interest area, Online courses can definitely help and very well considered as a extracurricular activity.

Summer is here! As you plan to utilise your summer break effectively, let us help you debunk the top 3 myths about Summer Planning today.

🚫 #1 Myth: Summer activities must be directly related to your intended major or career path.

🌸 Reality: While it's great to explore your interests and passions in a specific field during summer break, focus on what you enjoy and what you want to learn. Admissions officers are looking for well-rounded individuals with a diverse range of experiences and interests.

🚫 #2 Myth: You need to spend a lot of money to have a productive summer!

🌸 Reality: Focus on finding opportunities that are meaningful and align with your interests. Volunteering, internships, part-time jobs, or even pursuing a personal project or hobby can be just as impressive as an expensive program.

🚫 #3 Myth: You should use your summer to focus on academics and test prep.

🌸 Reality: Achieving academic success and excelling in tests is a continuous effort that extends beyond the summer months. It is important to develop effective study habits, manage time efficiently, and seek help and support whenever needed throughout your academic journey.

✅ Pro Tip:
Finding a balance between downtime and productive activities is key. While it's important to utilise your summer break effectively for personal development, it's equally important to allow yourself time to relax and recharge. A little downtime goes a long way!

College Rankings! How Important are they really?

As a high school student, searching for your perfect college can get overwhelming. Looking at college ranking is a good starting point as you begin your university research process. However, it cannot be used as the sole basis for deciding on one school over another.

Rankings are published yearly by magazines, journals, and academic institutions. It is crucial to understand what factors they consider while ranking the universities and whether those factors matter to you. There is some information that students can use, like:

★ Class size data to get a sense of the intimacy of classes,
★ International Acceptance rate to gauge your odds of getting into a given school
★ Freshman retention rates to learn about the percentage of students who return after their first year.

But there are many other important factors that students need to be mindful of while creating their balanced university list. After all individual college experience and what you do in college are far more important than the college brand itself.

➡️ Book a 1:1 session with us and we can help you navigate the college research process.
