Head Coach Derrick Gibson is building something special for the 2026 season, a great team, a great coaching staff, and rebuilding our championship mindset at Miami Central Senior High School. This is year two as our head coach.

Gibson is a former FSU star safety and 1st round draft pick, and won 5 state championships as a coach and defensive coordinator at Miami Central. He finished his first season at Miami Central 10–2 and advanced to the 3rd round of the playoffs, bringing elite experience and leadership back to 95th Street.

We are striving to win our tenth state championship in 17 years.

Calling out our Green Jacket Club, Boosters, and Alumni. We need you behind us as we chase greatness once again. Let’s pack Traz Powell, show up, and ball out like only Miami Central can.

The mission is clear.

It’s back.

After a two-year hiatus, Alumni Career Day returns to Miami Central Senior High School on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

This day is about legacy. It is about pride. It is about showing our students what is possible. Rockets are thriving in every industry of professional endeavor. Our graduates are leading in medicine, law, education, engineering, entrepreneurship, public service, technology, the arts, and the skilled trades. They are building companies, saving lives, serving communities, and shaping the future.

When our alumni walk back through these doors, it sends a clear message to every student in the building. Excellence lives here. Success starts here. The path forward is real.
We expect to see the house filled with proud Rocket graduates ready to pour into the next generation. Your presence matters. Your story matters. Your journey matters.

This is how we continue to instill Rocket pride. This is how we remind our students that greatness is not far away. It is part of who we are.

Once a Rocket, always a Rocket. 🚀

If you are looking for an inner city high school that is truly on the move, choose Miami Central. We are not just providing students with access to school and remediation. We are intentionally offering advanced academic opportunities that prepare students for college and beyond.

Miami Central is and a on the move. We offer a growing lineup of Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement courses, and we continue to expand academic programming every year. Dual Enrollment courses are real college courses taken at Miami Central, allowing students to earn college credit while still in high school and helping families save significant money on the college journey.

Our students benefit from partnerships with Florida International University, Miami Dade College, St. Thomas University, and the National Education Equity Lab, with additional virtual dual enrollment opportunities through institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton), Howard University, Florida A&M University, Stanford University, Harvard University, Princeton University, Brown University, Cornell University, Georgetown University, Dartmouth College, Barnard College, Spelman College, Morehouse College, Arizona State University, and the University of California system, among others, each semester. Many students even earn their Associate of Arts degree through Miami Dade College before graduating high school.

Students who earn a 3 or higher on AP exams often receive college credit at the majority of colleges and universities across the United States. Strong performance in Dual Enrollment and AP courses prepares our students for the rigor of college, giving them the confidence, skills, and academic foundation to succeed at the next level.

Since 2010, no public high school football program in America has played more out of state opponents than Miami Central. And through three different principals, four athletic directors, and four head football coaches, Miami Central has stayed committed to playing elite national competition.

People always ask why:

1. We prepare student athletes for
college.
2. We expose students who may
never play football in college
to a college style experience.
3. Win, lose, or draw, your team
comes back tougher and ready
for the rigors of the playoffs.
4. It has become a private school
world, and you must play the
best of the best to stay
relevant.
5. Our fans travel well for high
school football.
6. As they say in the streets, we
duck no smoke.

Miami Central stays on the national stage.
