$60K ecom horror story.

Here's the quick and dirty:

Dude found a product (sandals) on Alibaba.

Threw up some ads.

And immediately saw a 3X ROAS (put a buck in and got 3 out).

So he cranked spend.

Eventually taking it to 60K a month.

Shopify sales dinging all day long.

In his mind: "I made it."

Then... the refunds started flooding in.

He immediately hit up the supplier and got a pair sent to him.

And that’s when he realized… he was screwed.

They looked nothing like the picture.

Long story short: all his savings are gone, and he shuts down the biz.

Now some of you will be reading this and thinking, “oh he didn’t get a test pair sent to him first, it’s his fault. That's ecom 101.”

You’re not wrong.

But guess what…

I’ve never had a single product sent to my house to review.

And you know how many refunds I’ve had in the 4.5 years I've run my stores?

Zero.

You know why?

Because I sell high-quality, high ticket products sourced from US-based manufacturers.

Meaning less headaches and more profit.

But, I ain’t bragging.

I'm here to highlight the pitfalls of the low-ticket model to keep you safe, plus let you know...

You will never have to face the same painful fate so many unfortunate people find themselves in with ecom...

Because I’ve just created the most generous offer I've ever developed (I might honestly regret this).

That makes failure in this game nearly impossible.

The number ONE reason most people don’t make money with low ticket dropshipping…

Here we go. This one is math and numbers heavy.

I’m fully caffeinated (shoutout Magic Mind + cold brew coffee) and ready to bring it. Hope you are too…

Low ticket dropshipping… yesterday we talked about energy in vs energy out.

All of the work that goes in, just for it to potentially come crashing down when it’s all set and done.

But there’s something bigger than that…

Something that could potentially derail or discourage someone from ever getting that far in the first place.

And that thing is profit. (Show me the money!)

Simple concept, but if the math doesn’t back out, why continue going down that path?

Let’s do some numbers here and compare low ticket DS, versus the high ticket model I discussed yesterday.

Low ticket… let’s say you’re selling jewelry and use conservative numbers here.

You’re selling a necklace for $50.

You can source it from Aliexpress for $10 including shipping but it’ll take 2-3 weeks.

Your profit is $40 before ads.

Let’s say you’re using Facebook Ads to get customers…

Spend $1.50 per click (this is CHEAP)… and have a 10% conversion rate (this is HIGH)….

This means it takes 10 clicks to make 1 sale, and costs you $15.

So now $40 profit before ads - $15 for ads….

$25 profit per sale, 50% net profit margin.

Pretty decent, right?

Now let’s talk about your goals.

If you want to make $10,000 profit per month…

You’d take 10,000/25 profit per sale = 400 sales per month.

That’s roughly 13 sales a day.

What that means if you have to manage 400 shipments per month… 4,800 shipments and customers to handle per year.

If you didn’t a team or software in place to do it, that would be a TON of work to handle yourself.

Now let’s factor in more realistic numbers…

A client of mine works with eCom brands on the ads side and ran his own store for a bit.

During Q4 he made $130,000 in revenue in a single month…

Which is awesome! Except for his profit margin. He only saw 12-15% profit on that.

Which means he only made at most $19,500 profit.

And had to manage 2,600 individual orders.

Not to mention that’s Q4, the PEAK for eCommerce. His store was pretty seasonal, so after Christmas his sales went back towards the mid 5 figures….

So combine all of that with a lack of stability in revenue and profit.

It’s a painful cycle… tasting a bit of success but having to put in a TON of effort to get there, and only for a short time.

Now, let’s look at the High Ticket eCom model….

And the numbers.

We work with products that are at least $3,000 or more.

For sake of round numbers and more close to my own personal experience (my store’s Average Order Value is $8,800)…

Let’s say we are selling a $5,000 item.

I don’t work with a brand unless they give me 25% gross profit margin…

Which means ONE single sale to me would be worth $1,250 before adspend.

I usually budget 5-10% of the item’s sale price as my CPA.

So I am willing to spend $250-500 to make that one single sale…

… Leaving me with $750-1,000 in net profit.

Even if my average cost per click is $3… DOUBLE the low ticket example…

That means my conversion rate could be 0.5% (20X WORSE than the low ticket store)…

And that one sale is worth 30X MORE to me in pure profit ($750… versus $25).

So…. Back to where your goals come in.

The magic number is $10,000 per month in profit.

And we take the $750 net profit per sale number…

We just need 10,000/750 = 13 sales per MONTH.

So now it’s a game of 13 sales per DAY versus 13 per MONTH.

Which do you think is easier?

4,800 customers per year versus 156.

That’s 30 TIMES less work.

Not to mention…

With the higher intent traffic we use for the High Ticket eCom model…

Our customers LOVE us.

Because they already are buying from the brands we have on our site…

We’re simply tapping into existing traffic.

In the 4 years I’ve been in the business….

I haven’t had ONE return, and have not lost a chargeback…

All while using the same exact suppliers.

THAT is true stability. Consistent profit for YEARS.

I’ll leave you with this:

When you’re getting into the game of eCommere…

Do the math. Look at your numbers…

Does the amount of effort you’re putting in realistically equal the potential amount of profit you’re going to make, and want to make?

Chew on it, and let me know your thoughts down in those comments below.

The number two reason most people don’t make money with low ticket dropshipping…

I just had my morning coffee, Amanda’s cat chilling in my lap as I type this out for you reflecting on what I’ve seen across the e-commerce industry and working with my students.

And that reason is energy in vs energy out.

Let’s look at the average workload that goes into a low ticket dropshipping store:

First and foremost, you have to find a product to sell.

No matter if you’re selling mugs, jewelry, or fidget spinners….

You have to offer something on your store.

These “gurus” will call this your “winning product.

What they WON’T tell you is that you won’t know what’s going to win beforehand…

And that even if you test a bunch of products and happen to find a product that sells well… your day to day starts to evolve.

You’ll have to deal with hundreds of orders, and coordinate shipping on each one individually… (which means hundreds of customers to deal with)…

If there are ANY issues at all, you’ll face tons of returns, complaints, and chargebacks which can lead to getting you shut down completely…

And for a second - let’s play devils advocate and say that everything is perfect.

How long before your ads stop working? Or your ads work WELL and your competition notices… and all of a sudden everyone copies your winning product and it gets saturated?

All of this means you put in a ton of time, energy, and money into a store…

Building everything from scratch, finding products, and running paid ads…

All for it to come to a screeching halt.

This results in feeling drained and like all of the work you put in was for nothing… having to start over from nothing and do it all again.

And this is where YOU come in.

Your job as an ecom store owner is to find stability. And stability is only found through consistent profit.

Which is not impossible, but incredibly difficult, to do over an extended length of time with the low ticket model.

You see, eCommerce is a multi TRILLION dollar market globally as of 2023… and is only growing year over year…

So we need to find a way to get a piece of the pie, as it can set us up for years to come.

For students like Myriam in the screenshot below… she’s claiming her stake.

As you can see, she made a single sale yesterday.

One order, one item. $3,600 and over 20% of that is net profit.

All it took was a single conversation via live chat (this was the first visit the customer made to her site)…

Thanks to the high buying intent behind the ecom model that’s actually working in 2024.

Why sell $20-50 items, fighting for $10 profits when it’s all set and done…

(If you even make sales at all)…

When you can make 1-2 sales per week… selling to people that already are buying the high ticket products you have to offer…

And taking home $500-1,000 profit on every sale you make?

This type of setup is far less stressful overall, allowing you to still have free time…

And actually LEVERAGE all of the work you did once…

Allowing it to pay you over and over for years to come.

That’s the difference that makes the real difference, and why I love this high buying intent, “High Ticket eCom” model.

Tomorrow, I’ll go over the number one reason most people don’t make money with low ticket dropshipping…

So stay tuned for that.

My students and I make eCom sales of $5,000 or more consistently.

(And here’s exactly how we do it).

Firstly, it wasn’t always like this. Far from it actually.

I used to do the old, “low-ticket” dropshipping shtick with FB ads that never really worked for me.

Trying to sell stuff from Aliexpress, I was trying my hardest to pedal LED dog collars.

You get it lol.

And then something shifted.

Practically… the short answer is:

High Ticket brands + thematic Shopify store + Google Shopping
(I’ll link to a credit for $500 in free ad spend in the comments)

But the truth is, I didn’t have true success in eCom for years.

I’d seen all of the posts of people my age making 6-figures selling fidget spinners…

But I noticed something: Those stores are nowhere to be found now.

I saw that those low-ticket stores that did have success might last 4-6 months, and then volume dies, rinse and repeat with a new “winning product”.

Now, I don’t start over.

In fact, we only grow and expand stores over time. I’ve been running the same store I started with for over 4 years now with the EXACT same suppliers from Day 1.

Here’s the 3 things that helped me make the shift:

1. High Ticket Products

I am a huge proponent for doing less work to make more money. The old adage of “Work smarter, not harder”.

Applying that here, let’s do some math and say your goal is $10,000/month:

Would you rather…

Sell a product for $50, make net 20% profit ($10), and have to sell 1,000 units per month to get there…

Or…

Sell a product for $5,000, make that same 20% net profit ($1,000), and only have to sell 10 units to do it…

If you’re like me, you’re picking the 10 units… every. Single. Time.

“But Eric, I don’t know what products I can sell for $5,000 or how get access to even sell them!”

I’m glad this was brought up…

You see, you could do 1 of 2 things:

1. You can ask ChatGPT “What are some high end products that sell for $3,000 or more?”
2. You go into the comments section down below and grab my 100% free cheatsheet of 120 High Ticket product examples.

And in terms of getting access, that’s simple:

All we do is find brands for these product types using Google Shopping…

The theory here being that if we can find other dropshippers for these product types…

The brands they’re working with will accept new dropshippers like us (because we don’t have warehousing or a retail space)…

So you simply make a list of all of the brands that competing dropshippers are using, and once you have step 2 below done, you can reach out to these brands and get access to their product catalogs.

2. Thematic Shopify Store

Gone are the days of the “one-product” store.

Especially in the High Ticket space, those basic store designs won’t cut it.

So what we do instead is a “Thematic” store.

Meaning that we want to be able to have a broad range of product types on our store, 8-10 or more…

In order to remove any trace of seasonality from our store.

That way, we are always making sales all year round.

So a theme in this case could be… heat.

On a “heat” themed store, you could sell:

- Fire pits
- Fire bowls
- Grills
- Commercial stoves + ranges
- Infrared saunas
- Pool heaters
- Outdoor heaters
- Sunrooms
- Electric fireplaces
- Sauna heaters

I could go on and on. But the idea is that all of those product types have a certain type of year they sell the most.

You combine all of them under the same common thread or THEME of heat, and all of a sudden it makes sense for them all to be on the same store, even if the products don’t necessarily fit in the same direct niche.

AND you’ll always be selling something all year round.

3. Google Shopping

Advertising is all about intent. Meeting the potential customer where they’re at.

If you’re advertising on FB, IG, and TikTok, you’re leaning on impulse based purchases. They’re on those social media sites to be entertained, not buying as their primary purpose.

(You don’t scroll FB with the thought of, oh what can I buy next?)

Google Shopping is the highest buying intent traffic there is.

Someone has gone out of the way to type in “John Deere S100 ride on mower”.

And if you’re working with John Deere and selling their products…

You can be sure you want to show you up at the tip top of the page whenever someone makes that search.

Especially if they go to the Shopping Tab, where the products being advertised are put at the very top of the search results.

They ALREADY want to buy that product. Our ads are all about:

1. Timing, making sure we’re the ones that get the click…

And 2. Incentivizing the sale with US vs someone else that also sells their products…

We do this by offering our customers Free Shipping and No Sales Tax, as well as an additional coupon to further sweeten the deal.

That way, they ALREADY wanted to buy it, now there’s no way they can say no!

And that’s “the secret” for me and my students.

Hope that’s helpful 🙏

Rooting for you,
Eric
