Education Pathfinder provides mock exams in English, Maths and second stage group activities and interviews for students preparing for 7+ exams. Papers are set to a high standard on the basis of current independent school exam trends.

We aim to give parents an impartial view of their child’s level of achievement in an unfamiliar exam environment, whilst providing the experience of exam-day conditions for the child. This includes a group activity and interview session as is often included in the second stage assessment.

But why is "in person" deemed so crucial to them?

As an entrance exam tutor for 13 years, with the last 4 years exclusively online, I've witnessed consistent success rates, student engagement, and parental satisfaction. So, why the insistence on in-person tutoring?

It boils down to perceptions, or perhaps misconceptions.

❌ Misconception 1: Young children can't stay engaged without physical presence.

✅ Reality: Skilled tutors adeptly weave fast-paced, enjoyable activities into sessions to hold engagement and learning.

❌ Misconception 2: Young children can't sit still.

✅ Reality: It's unnecessary and inconsequential. Learning still happens regardless of whether a child is bouncing up and down or not!

❌ Misconception 3: In-person tutoring yields better results.

✅ Reality: Online tutoring delivers the same successful outcomes if the tutor is skilled and using the right tools.

So where do these misconceptions stem from?

Certainly, the disruptions caused by Covid lockdowns play a role. Many parents' initial encounters with online teaching were subpar.

However, tailored, skilled online teaching differs vastly.

Some parents request a trial lesson with me to assess whether the online environment will work with their child. I welcome it because I'm confident they'll return for more.
