THE MUSIC OF MAESTRO Instructor: R. Hoffman
Dive deep into the music of Leonard Bernstein. While the Oscar nominated film focused on Lenny’s marital life and other relationships, this course takes a closer look/listen into the actual music that Bernstein composed and conducted. What made his music so distinctive? What makes it “work?” What were his inspirations?
While most of the music studied in this course will consist of Bernstein compositions, music of other composers with which he is often associated (Mahler, Copland, and others) will also be heard. No previous knowledge of music theory, nor performing ability, is required (and no need to have seen the film). The course is designed to appeal to audiences at all levels from enthusiastic appreciators to proficient musicians.
Spring: Thursdays 6:30pm – 8:30pm 6 classes Location: Music Room $ 120.00
Begins: April 4, 2024 Ends: May 16, 2024 No Class April 25, 2024
