Our mission is to empower Nepali students. We partner with schools in the Annapurna region of Nepal They enjoyed a very encouraging reception.

Brad Hurvitz and Madan Prasain realized the opportunity for a teaching organization in Nepal in 2009. At that time he was teaching at a school in Rajasthan, India and took a trip to Nepal to go trekking during a two week school holiday. While on this trip, he saw the Nepali students making their way to
school and home again every day and learned more about the situation with the schools from his

uide, Madan. The two approached the headmaster of a school in one of the communities to
explore the prospect of bringing English speaking teachers to come to the community to teach
English in the school. At that time, it looked like no
English-speaking teachers were offering English
language instruction in western Nepal. It didn’t
take long for Brad and Madan to agree to partner
to found the organization that soon became Trek
To Teach. Brad registered the domain name at the
first opportunity. When Brad returned to university in Oregon, he registered the 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) in February 2011. He registered Trek to Teach Nepal as an NGO in Nepal in the spring of 2011. At about the same time, he developed the organization’s website. Trek To Teach made arrangements to provide a teacher with a school in Ghandruk in 2011. TTT started work with its second school in Chommrong in in the summer of 2012. It provided a teacher who taught courses to students in grades 4 to 7. Each class had 6 to 12 students in each class. The teacher stayed 10 weeks - the standard TTT term. In 2013, TTT placed teachers in three communities: Ghandruk, Tolka, Ghandruk. That number grew to four teachers in 2014 and continued to grow to four teachers in 2015. These teachers
worked in Kimchee, Kluye, and Dhampus. In 2016, TTT placed eight teachers in six villages. To date, TTT has placed 18 teachers in six communities. TTT Nepal has done more than provide teachers; it has taken a few steps to improve the school infrastructures. It has rebuilt the
water fountains in two schools, bought desks, built a library, and is continuing to pursue grant opportunities in order to built and rebuild two other schools. TTT has grown steadily over the years and has teachers, alumni and ambassadors from more than five countries. We plan on further growth allowing us to make an even bigger impact in our future goals and projects.

Many of you already know the origin story of Trek to Teach. In 2009, after finding inspiration among the beauty of the Himalayas of Nepal, and the kindness of her people, I partnered with my trekking guide Madan and our friend Alice to create an organization to help the young people of the region receive an education that matched their incredible dedication to learning. Trek to Teach was born.

And honestly, it’s been a lot of work! I’m not sure which has more up and downs, a Himalayan trek, or running a small nonprofit. Over the past 15 years we sent more than 60 teachers on a 4 day trek into the foothills of the Annapurna region where they lived in a guest house and taught at the village schools. And with an incredible set of partners (MyTefl, Wings and others), we helped build a library, repair a school after the earthquake, build a multi-purpose room, build a water fountain, a fence around a school and many other projects.

The organization has reached heights I was never expecting and the time has come to close the book on Trek to Teach. I may have started the organization and got it off the ground but it thrived with the work of others. I am extremely grateful for everything all of you hav done to make this organization thrive.
