In his Ṣaḥīḥ, al-Imām Muslim رحمه الله narrates with his isnād that Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr رحمه الله said:

"Knowledge cannot be acquired with sloth and rest."

Commenting on this narration, Shaykh Dr 'Abdullāh ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz al-'Anqari حفظه الله said:

"If a student of knowledge is always relaxed and comfortable, and does not feel tired, that is an indication that he is deficient in his knowledge."

Benefit from Shaykh Dr 'Abd al-Salām ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Jārullāh:

"Amongst the wisdom of Allah not mentioning the names of specific individuals in the Qurān, such as the names of the brothers of Yūsuf or the Pharaoh of Egypt at the time of Yūsuf, is so that no one will feel that a particular verse or incident in the Qurān does not relate or apply to him (and hence he will always take heed of all verses and incidents mentioned in the Qurān)."

Benefit from Shaykh Dr Sa’d ibn Turki al-Khathlān:

Cowardice is one of the most despicable traits that a Muslim should strive to avoid; the Prophet used to always seek refuge in Allah from cowardice, and taught his Companions to do the same.

One of the categories of cowardice is being overly fearful, such as constantly fearing the evil eye and black magic. This is actually a sign of weak faith in Allah, and a lack of reliance upon Allah, as well as having bad assumptions of Him.

Benefit from Shaykh Dr Sāmī ibn Muḥammad al-Ṣuqayr:

There is a difference of opinion amongst the scholars regarding the prohibition of cutting nails and hair for the one who intends to do uḍḥiyah (slaughter for qurbān). Some stated that the prohibition is one of strong discouragement (makrūh), while others have stated that it is ḥarām.

However, it is always better to avoid cutting nails and hair altogether, as a form of respect for the prohibitive form that is used in the Prophetic narration.

Also, the prohibition is only for the one who intends to do uḍḥiyah; thus if the head of a household wants to do uḍḥiyah on behalf of his whole family, he’s the only one who should abstain from cutting his nails and hair, while his family members are free to do so.

Similarly, if one were to authorise someone to do uḍḥiyah on his behalf, he still is the one who needs to abstain from cutting his nails and hair, not the one who does the actual act of slaughtering on his behalf.

Imām Ibn Abi al-'Izz رحمه الله said:

"Scholars differed over the ruling of physical acts of worship (if they were intended for the benefit of the dead, will it benefit them or not), such as fasting, prayers, reading the Quran or remembrance of Allah.

The madhhab of Abī Ḥanīfah, Aḥmad and majority of the Salaf is that these physical acts of worship (done by the living and intended for the dead) can benefit the dead, while the prominent opinion in the madhhab of al-Shāfi'i and Mālik is that the benefits of these acts of worship will not reach the dead."

Commenting on this, Shaykh Dr 'Abdullāh ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz al-'Anqari حفظه الله said:

"This is an issue of fiqh where there is no need for severity as there is a clear difference of opinions amongst scholars.

The first opinion is that physical acts of worship done by the living can benefit the dead in their graves, and truth be told this is an opinion held by the majority of scholars.

The second opinion is that physical acts of worship done by the living cannot benefit the dead, and this opinion is held by al-Shāfi'i and Mālik, and this opinion is preferred by our shaykh, al-Shaykh Ibn Bāz رحمه الله."

Benefit from Shaykh Dr 'Abdullāh ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz al-'Anqari:

"The Attributes of Allah are either Affirmed Attributes or Denied Attributes (for example, Allah having the Attribute of never feeling tired or falling asleep, as mentioned Āyat al-Kursi).

Thus, whatever Attribute that is attributed to Him, that is befitting for Him or not, must have a basis from textual evidence (i.e. the Quran and the Sunnah)."

Benefit from Shaykh Dr 'Abdullāh ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz al-'Anqari:

"Always always ask Allah to keep you firm (upon Islam and the Sunnah), for the Prophet himself needed help from Allah to keep firm and steadfast.

Allah said in the Quran: {Had We not made you (O Muḥammad) steadfast and firm, you probably would have inclined to them a little.} [al-Isrā': 74]

Benefit from Shaykh Dr Sa'd ibn Nāṣir al-Sh*thri:

"In the matter of niyyah (intention) in acts of worship, people are divided into three categories:

1) Those who worship Allah for Allah and for the Hereafter: This is a Muslim and Muwahhid (a true Monotheist). He will receive the reward for his acts of worship in the Hereafter.

2) Those who worship Allah for something of this world: He will get want he intended in terms of the worldly benefits, but he would not get anything from his acts of worship in the Hereafter.

3) Those who worship Allah and simultaneously worship something else besides Allah: This is major shirk (which causes a person to leave Islam or not be considered as Muslim)."
