October is ADHD awareness month. We don’t want people to just be aware though. We want family, friends, teachers, coaches and strangers to understand it is not an excuse or bad parenting.

October is a chance to demystify ADHD and remove the stigma so that adults living with the condition can be better understood, and that children can dream of a future where they are not disadvantaged for being neurodivergent.

👉🏻 Note: although the poster says 1 in 20 children, we know that due to financial circumstances, culture or geographic location, there are many undiagnosed individuals who struggle everyday.

With child protection week being well underway, I thought I would share my doctoral project - which aims to create change for our kids in the child protection system. My project is focused on looking at how we can have better outcomes for our kids in Government care, who, at 18 are effectively considered adults and sometimes really struggle to navigate adult life.

I am currently in a competition called "3 Minute Thesis" where the challenge is to explain my thesis in only 3 minutes and make sure it makes sense. I think it's important to support friends during grief because it can be really tough for them. It's hard to know what to say or do, but just being there for them can make a big difference. It's important to be patient and understanding and to let them talk about their loved one if they want to. It's also important to be positive and try to help them see the good in life. It's not always easy, but it's worth it to be there for someone during their time of need.

Loss is a part of life. We experience it in many different ways, but the pain of loss is universal. Whether we lose a loved one, our health, our possessions, or our dreams, the sense of grief and emptiness can be overwhelming. What makes loss even more difficult to bear is that it is often intangible. We can’t see or touch the thing we’ve lost, and that can make it hard to accept and move on. This is called non-finite loss.

To help you cope with non-finite loss, we need to understand it a little better. Non-finite loss refers to intangible losses that are often difficult to accept, like the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, or the failure of a dream. While these losses can be painful and upsetting, they may also lead to feelings of grief, despair, and emptiness.

One way to cope with non-finite loss is by seeking support from friends, family members, or a therapist. Connecting with others who understand what you’re going through can help you feel less alone in your pain. Additionally, setting goals for yourself can help you move forward after a loss. Whether you’re aiming to get back into shape after an illness, start a new hobby after a breakup, or rebuild your career after a setback, having something to focus on can give you a sense of purpose and hope.

Grieving is a process that takes time, so be patient with yourself. It’s normal to feel sad, angry, or scared after a loss. Allow yourself to experience these emotions and know that they will eventually subside. When you’re ready, try to take small steps toward rebuilding your life. With time, the pain of non-finite loss will lessen and you will find yourself moving forward once more.

When times are tough, it is important to maintain hope. Hope can be the thing that gets us through the tough times. I know from personal experience that it is easy to lose hope, but it is so important to keep fighting and hold on to that hope. When we have hope, we can see the possibility of a better future, even in the darkest of times. And that gives us the strength to keep going. That’s why hope is so important – it can keep us going, even when we don’t know what the future holds. When times are tough, just remember to hold on to your hope and know that things will get better if you keep fighting!

To learn about your own emotions, you need to pay close attention to how you feel in different situations and then reflect on what might have caused those feelings.

For example, if you're feeling angry, ask yourself what events or things might have happened that made you feel that way. Try to be as specific as possible, and think about all of the different aspects of the situation that could have influenced your emotional response.

Once you've identified the factors that contributed to your emotional reaction, it's important to start exploring why those factors had such an impact on you. What are your underlying beliefs or attitudes about the situation? And how do those beliefs or attitudes make you feel? Often, our emotions are a reflection of our own beliefs about ourselves and the world around us.
