What should the long-term priorities be for our district? What do you think should look differently for VCS in 5 years?

In 5 years, I envision VCS as a district that is a gold standard in student success, including support for the professional growth of educators and staff members, an effective integration of educational technology, and a focus on preparing students for post-secondary education and careers through a holistic approach.

These long-term priorities for our district should include infrastructure enhancements that are aligned with programming needs, expanding student support services across the district, providing access to immersive educational experiences, increasing opportunities for cutting-edge elective coursework, promoting college readiness, and supporting professional development for educators and staff.

Provide your perspective on the financial picture of the School District.

From my perspective, the financial picture of the School District appears to be more stable than in years past. I attribute this to the effort of our administration and the commitment of our VCS community, who no doubt have overcome historical economic trends. However, it is crucial to carefully allocate resources that maximize educational outcomes for all students, including investments in technical skills and digitally focused programs that support college preparation, career readiness, and an overall dynamic student experience. We must prioritize spending on future-proof initiatives that have a direct impact on student achievement while also ensuring that we maintain a balanced budget.

How will you ensure that the teachers/staff members have a role in providing input for the decisions that the school board makes?

To ensure that teachers and staff members have a role in providing input for the decisions that the school board makes, I plan on implementing several strategies that encourage their involvement and give them opportunities to share their valuable insights.

First, I plan on visiting schools and observing teachers in action, as well as interacting with staff members to get a firsthand understanding of the day-to-day challenges and successes they face. This will help me gain a deeper appreciation of their work and enable me to make better-informed decisions that take their perspectives into account.

Second, contribute to committees or working groups focused on specific topics or initiatives, such as curriculum development, capital improvement projects, or student support services. By engaging with representatives in these groups, we can ensure that their expertise is utilized, and their input is considered when making important decisions.

Finally, I will advocate for ongoing professional development and training programs for teachers and staff members. This not only supports their growth but also equips them with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute effectively to discussions and decisions that impact the educational environment.
