After months of training and working together, these girls emerged as the leaders of their class. After spending hours together at hula during the day, they would spend hours on FaceTime practicing and “correcting” each other. Their 2nd place award is truly a reflection of their hard work and dedication. Congratulations Kelakela!! You represented your Kumu and Hālau magnificently. 📷 and

After spending the last 3 summers relaxing, it was great to get back in the swing of Keiki Hula training!! These hula girls have worked so hard and grown so much! Of these 21 girls, only 3 have competed in Keiki Hula before and some just started dancing hula within a year, some months!! With all the unexpected hiccups we endured this summer, what they were able to accomplish is truly amazing!! Congratulations Kelakela and thank you for representing all of Hālau Lilia Makanoe!

Her smile lit up the room, her energy surged the crowd, and she danced her heart out!! What more could I have asked of her? She represented every haumāna of Hālau Lilia Makanoe and shouted with joy, “Mom, I won the 1st trophy for our new Hālau.” She thought of everyone in that moment!! I’m so proud of the young woman she is blossoming into!! I’m so grateful for and and all her hula aunties and hula sisters for the love they showered down on her during her preparation! It truly takes a village or in this case, a HĀLAU to raise a child!! Congratulations Viviya Leigh Kamakanoelani Lindsey Apana, 2nd Place Miss Keiki Hula 2023!!
Mahalo for the great photos
