TACLOBAN CITY NOW UNDER SIGNAL NO. 1

As of 4:00 PM today, Severe Tropical Storm Uwan was located 1,175 km east of Eastern Visayas, with maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h, gusts up to 135 km/h, and moving westward at 25 km/h. The storm’s strong to storm-force winds extend outward up to 780 km from its center.

PAGASA has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over parts of Bicol Region, Tacloban City, Eastern Visayas, Northern and Central Visayas, and parts of Mindanao, including Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte. These areas may experience strong winds within the next 36 hours with minimal to minor impacts.

According to PAGASA, Uwan may intensify into a typhoon within 24 hours and could reach super typhoon strength by Sunday morning. The system is expected to make landfall over the southern portion of Isabela or northern Aurora late Sunday evening or early Monday morning, possibly at peak intensity.

PAGASA urges the public and local DRRM offices to take precautionary measures and stay updated through official weather advisories.
