The centre has successfully organised an online session regarding the introduction of the RTE Act, 2009 as a compulsory component in the curriculum of all legal education centres in India on 11th June 2023. The same was chaired by Mr. Priyank Kanoongo, Chairperson, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and attended by various other esteemed speakers.

We are pleased to inform you that the GNLU Centre for Women and Child Rights is organizing its first RIGHT TO EDUCATION CONCLAVE on 8th - 9th October 2022 at GNLU Campus.

The RTE Conclave is a first-of-its-kind conference that seeks to bring academicians, students, practitioners, activists, and policymakers together to work towards the effective implementation of the RTE Act in India, both in essence and spirit.

There are an estimated 258 million widows around the world, and nearly one in ten live in extreme poverty. The United Nations observes 23 June as International Widows Day (resolution A/RES/65/189) since 2011, to draw attention to the voices and experiences of widows and to galvanize the unique support that they need.

Widows are coerced into participating in harmful, degrading and even life-threatening traditional practices as part of burial and mourning rites. Programmes and policies for ending violence against widows and their children, poverty alleviation, education and other support to widows of all ages also need to be undertaken, including in the context of action plans to accelerate achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. And in the context of COVID-19, widows must not be left out of our work to “build back better”. Let us ensure that our recovery prioritizes their unique needs and supports societies to be more inclusive, resilient and equal for all.

The term “conflict-related sexual violence” refers to r**e, sexual slavery, forced prostitution, forced pregnancy, forced abortion, enforced sterilization, forced marriage and any other form of sexual violence of comparable gravity perpetrated against women, men, girls or boys that is directly or indirectly linked to a conflict. The term also encompasses trafficking in persons when committed in situations of conflict for the purpose of sexual violence or exploitation.

A consistent concern is that fear and cultural stigma converge to prevent the vast majority of survivors of conflict-related sexual violence from coming forward to report such violence. Practitioners in the field estimate that for each r**e reported in connection with a conflict, 10 to 20 cases go undocumented.

The theme for this year’s observance of International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict is ‘Prevention as Protection: Enhancing structural and operational prevention of conflict-related sexual violence.’ There are no winners among countless casualties in armed conflict, not least the women and girls victimized by militants who have weaponized sexual violence as a tactic of war, torture and terrorism. The costs of conflict are great; the costs of conflict paid largely by women and girls are incalculable.

“As long as poverty, injustice and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest”- words by Nelson Mandela ring true even on this day of World Day of Social Justice.

The theme for this year's World Day of Social Justice is ‘Achieving Social Justice through Formal Employment’, which the United Nations believes is a necessary condition to reduce poverty and inequalities in society.

The UN believes that availability of decent work can lead to increase in productivity and sustainability of enterprises, which in turn can help countries grow. To help make this plan possible, several countries are utilizing new technologies to identify potential employees.

GNLU Centre for Women and Child Rights presents Poetry Competition on the glorious occasion of International Women's Day which is celebrated every year on 8th March.

The day is celebrated to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women. It is also a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.

Last date of submission: 1 March 2022

All entries need to be in English and in pdf. format. Participants need to submit their poetries to [email protected] .

In this week’s Know Your Rights Series, we take a look at Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 and its substantive provisions. This Act seeks to protect women from sexual harassment at their place of work. The Act defines sexual harassment at the work place and creates a mechanism for redressal of complaints.
