Sampaloc District journalism writeshop
culminates with awarding rites
Thirty-seven aspiring student journalists were recognized during the Closing and Awarding Program of the District Summer Training–Writeshop on Campus Journalism 2026 held on May 29 at Sampaloc Elementary School–Main after completing two weeks of intensive journalism training.
The activity marked the culmination of the district-wide seminar anchored on the theme, “Critical, Principled, and Accountable Journalism,” which equipped participants with essential skills in writing, broadcasting, editing, visual storytelling, and digital journalism.
In her welcome remarks, Elisa J. Mancenido, Head Teacher III of Sampaloc Elementary School- Main and school head in charge of journalism, congratulated the participants for their commitment and perseverance throughout the training and encouraged them to continue pursuing excellence in journalism.
During the sharing of participants’ insights, student journalists reflected on the valuable lessons and experiences they gained throughout the two-week training. Mary Dustine O. Llava, a Grade 6 learner from Sampaloc ES–Main, expressed her gratitude to the organizers and resource speakers for introducing participants to various journalism categories and strengthening their writing skills.
Meanwhile, Frances Gwyneth Bala, a Grade 8 learner from Adela S. Torres National High School, shared that one of the most exciting aspects of the training was learning different journalistic disciplines from experienced mentors. She recalled a lesson from one of the resource speakers who quoted, “Jack of all trades, master of none, but oftentimes better than master of one,” emphasizing that journalists should develop a strong foundation across various journalism fields before pursuing specialization. Their reflections highlighted the participants’ appreciation of the knowledge, skills, and inspiration gained from the summer program.
The district, through Charisse Joyce D. Enriquez, recognized the active participation and accomplishments of the learners during the awarding of certificates and recognitions at the conclusion of the training-writeshop.
Outstanding participants were also recognized, with the Top 5 performers in the elementary level and Top 3 performers in the secondary level receiving awards in the various writing and individual categories. Special awards were likewise conferred upon exemplary participants in Radio Script Writing and Broadcasting, recognizing excellence in script development, news delivery, anchoring, and presentation of informercial.
The district also honored the School Paper Advisers (SPAs) who served as resource speakers and members of the Technical Working Group (TWG) for their invaluable contributions in mentoring participants, facilitating learning sessions, and ensuring the successful implementation of the two-week training.
In his message of appreciation, Aldrin E. Cabuyao, SPA of Adela STNHS, thanked the organizers, facilitators, school heads, and participants whose collective efforts contributed to the success of the district initiative. He emphasized that the training demonstrated the district’s commitment to developing competent and responsible campus journalists.
Meanwhile, Ma. Lourdes U. Lorca, SPA of Sampaloc NHS, delivered the closing remarks, reminding participants that journalism extends beyond competitions and awards. She encouraged them to uphold truth, integrity, and accountability as they continue their journey as young communicators.
The two-week training-writeshop served as a venue for participants to strengthen their journalistic competencies, build confidence, and develop a deeper appreciation for ethical and responsible media practice. It also functioned as a preparatory platform for the upcoming School Press Conferences for School Year 2026–2027, equipping aspiring campus journalists with the knowledge, skills, and competitive edge needed to excel in various journalism categories at the district, division, and higher levels of competition.
