NEWS | DECEE Field Study Supervisors Convene to Strengthen Field Study Courses
Field Study Supervisors of the Department of Early Childhood and Elementary Education (DECEE) held a coordination meeting in preparation for the implementation and improvement of Field Study courses for the current semester.
The meeting was attended by Assoc. Prof. Mark Gill M. Mercado, Dr. Abegail P. Simbre, and Ms. Rosa Mia M. Arayan, who discussed key areas for strengthening the delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of Field Study courses for pre-service teachers.
Among the major agenda items was the revision of the Field Study syllabus to ensure alignment with the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECED) and Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) programs. The supervisors also reviewed the core components of the courses in consideration of recent developments in pre-service teacher education and relevant findings from the EDCOM report.
To further enhance the assessment and documentation of students’ field experiences, the group also discussed the revision of the classroom observation tool and the development of a Field Study Evaluation Tool, which will be led by Dr. Abegail P. Simbre. The preparation of CHED requirements for off-campus activities will be spearheaded by Ms. Rosa Mia M. Arayan, while the development of the Field Study Manual will be led by Assoc. Prof. Mark Gill M. Mercado.
The meeting reflects DECEE’s continuing commitment to improving the quality of experiential learning among pre-service teachers. Through the planned revisions and development of support materials, the department aims to ensure that Field Study courses remain responsive, outcomes-based, and aligned with current standards in teacher education.
