The S**G lab is continuously growing, and we are currently seeking a Research Associate to join our team and assist with our ongoing research projects. 🤓
 
Applicants should hold a master’s degree in a health or other related fields such as Health Promotion; Public Health; Education; Sociology; Communication Studies, Gender, and Women Studies; Indigenous Health Studies.

We have exciting news to share! Mark your calendars because on November 28th, the S**G lab is hosting a research showcase! 🥳

The S**G lab was the recipient of Canadian Foundation for Innovation grant funding, which provided us the opportunity to renovate a new lab space! 👩‍💻🧑‍💻

Now that we have settled into our new home, we are eager to invite folks to visit us and learn more about our work 👋

The showcase will be a drop-in style event from 3-5PM on Tuesday, November 28th.

We are so excited for you to meet the S**G lab team and learn about our research through fun displays! 🖼️

Last week, members of the S**G lab had the privilege of attending the 50th annual Canadian S*x Research Forum in Montreal, Quebec! 🍁📚
 
We had the opportunity to present on several ongoing lab projects, including our community-based research on Indigenous boys and men's holistic s*xual health, the mental health of LGBTQ+ people during the COVID-19 pandemic, and s*xual consent practices of gay, bis*xual, trans, two-spirit, and q***r men.
 
Our lab members also had the opportunity to present their own outstanding research. Brittany O’Shea and Samantha McCready shared their master's research projects, and Dr. Bamidele Bello presented the findings of her postdoctoral research 🎓🔍
 
It was a pleasure to not only share our research but also to be inspired by the work of fellow s*x researchers. 🤓🌟
 
We would also like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to our research assistant, Sulia’n Johnson, who was the recipient of the BIPOC student research award! 🏆 Sulia’n is the lead research assistant on the Indigenous s*xual health project, and created a thought-provoking oral presentation that highlighted the importance and impact of this research. Bravo, Sulia’n! 🙌👏🎉

We are so excited to share our new publication, a scoping review investigating the mental health of LGBTQ+ people during the COVID-19 Pandemic. We are excited to introduce one of our new research assistants, Andrew! Andrew is in his final year of a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. He has a background in s*xual health and harm reduction, and he helped to develop and coordinate the Peer N Peer Program out of the AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia. He also works as a research assistant for Dr. Phillip Joy at Mount Saint Vincent University, where he is researching the meanings of compassion in the 2SLGBTQIA community. He co-founded the “PnP Project Halifax” and co-facilitates a support group for 2SLGTBQIA+ individuals engaged in s*xualized substance use called “PnP Hangouts”. He also does work for the Community Based Research Centre, developing educational resources about PnP. Andrew is an active community educator on harm reduction and s*xual health, and alongside colleagues from Toronto, is creating more inclusive and supportive policies for workers with lived and living experience and expertise relating to substance use.

We’re thrilled to have Andrew as a part of the S**G Lab!

Zines are self-published printed publications containing art and words that have a rich history among marginalized and censored communities.

Our workshop is FREE and all necessary materials will be provided. Complimentary snacks and refreshments will also be available 🙂 Attending this workshop is a great opportunity to meet other members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, while also learning about zine-making techniques. Whether you're interested in creating your own zine or just want to learn more, feel free to drop in and check it out!
