When you are just thinking about or getting ready to start a business, or pretty much forever after you start a business; there are endless tasks floating around in your head. It is so easy to fall victim to overwhelm and analysis paralysis.
How many times have you thought where do I start? What do I need to do first? What is the most important? It is so easy to get bogged down and then nothing gets done.
Here is my very simple solution to overwhelm.
To start with, download all of those thoughts out of your head. Grab a piece of paper and make a list of everything you think you need to do. Once it's all down where you can see it you can start to make a plan.
Next, prioritize the tasks. If you are just starting out it should be things like choosing a name and purchasing a URL, getting a business bank account and a seller’s permit from your state.
Rewrite the list in order of priority and next to each task put a deadline of when you want to complete the task. Some will have to be done before you can move on to others. Be realistic with your deadlines. If you have a full time job you may have to allow more time to complete things.
Keep the paper nearby so you can add new items as they pop into your head. Having it organized this way will keep you focused and avoid overwhelm. You will just need to look at the list to see what you should be working on.
Also, be sure to reward yourself when you cross things off the list. Your brain loves rewards. It is what will keep you motivated and moving forward with positive momentum.
