SYNOPSIS: At 3:00 AM today, the center of the eye of Typhoon "INDAY" {BAVI} was estimated based on all available data at 940 km East of Northern Luzon (17.7°N, 130.6°E) with maximum sustained winds of 175 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 215 km/h. It is moving West Northwestward at 20 km/h. Southwest Monsoon Mindanao.

FORECAST:
Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Lanao del Norte, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and South Cotabato will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorm due to Southwest Monsoon. Possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains. The rest of Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to Southwest Monsoon. SYNOPSIS: At 3:00 AM today, the center of the eye of Super Typhoon "INDAY" {BAVI} was estimated based on all available data at 1,420 km East of Northern Luzon (16.8°N, 135.0°E) with maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 230 km/h. It is moving Westward at 25 km/h. Southwest Monsoon affecting Mindanao.

🌏 ACES Corner | Monitoring & Assessment Visit on the Restoration Efforts at Simariki Island

On July 3, 2026, the C3P3 SIEMBRA Project, in partnership with the Jesuit Refugee Service Asia Pacific (JRSAP)through the C3P3 Project – Care for Communities and Creation – Pillar 3, conducted its Monthly Monitoring and Assessment Visit at Simariki Island, Zamboanga City.

The visit focused on assessing the progress and condition of the restoration sites, monitoring the growth and survival of planted mangrove propagules, and strengthening community-led environmental stewardship.

As of July 2026, with a total of 7,070 mangrove propagules planted, 6,759 are surviving, achieving an outstanding 95.6% survival rate. This remarkable milestone reflects the strong ownership, commitment, and stewardship of the Sama Bangingi partner community of Simariki Island, whose consistent care and active participation have been vital in ensuring the success and sustainability of the restoration efforts.

The visit reaffirms our shared commitment to rehabilitating 10 hectares of degraded areas both in coastal & upland, strengthening biodiversity, enhancing climate resilience, and empowering Indigenous communities as environmental stewards through sustainable natural resource management.

🌎 ACES Corner | Single-Use Plastic Alternatives Study Published

We are pleased to announce that the study "Single-Use Plastic Alternatives: An Analysis of Cost and Consumer Preferences in Zamboanga City" has been officially published as part of the Circular Economy Project, implemented in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross and Spanish Red Cross.

Conducted by the Ateneo Center for Environment and Sustainability (ACES) in collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross, this four-phase research project examined the current landscape of single-use plastic consumption in Zamboanga City. The study assessed consumer preferences, willingness to adopt sustainable alternatives, cost-benefit dynamics, and the feasibility of interventions such as deposit-return schemes for reusable containers. The findings provide evidence-based insights to support local policy development, business transitions, and community-driven solutions for reducing plastic waste.

This study directly supports Sustainable Development Goal No. 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by promoting sustainable practices and reducing plastic pollution, and Sustainable Development Goal No. 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by working toward making urban areas more environmentally resilient and waste-conscious.

ACES is honored to have contributed to this important research and remains committed to advancing sustainability through science, collaboration, and community engagement.

𝐈Ñ𝐈𝐆𝐎 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦

Through shared stories, reflections, laughter, tears, and tokens of appreciation, our student immersees and their foster families celebrated the meaningful bonds they have formed over the past weeks. What began as a temporary stay became a transformative experience of accompaniment, mutual learning, and genuine human connection. In the homes, communities, and everyday lives of the people of Siay, our students discovered lessons that no classroom could ever fully teach.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to the Local Government Unit of Siay and Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) - Siay for their unwavering support and partnership in making this immersion program possible. We are honored by the presence of our local leaders and partners who joined us in this culminating activity and who have journeyed with us throughout the program.

Our heartfelt thanks to the Siay Municipal Police Station (MPS) for ensuring the safety and well-being of our student immersees during their stay in the municipality.

We also express our profound appreciation to the officials of Barangay Logpond and Barangay Moching, Siay, for warmly welcoming our students into their communities and for supporting the various activities conducted during the immersion.

🎨 IÑIGO 2026 | 𝐄𝐜𝐨-𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟒: 𝐀𝐫𝐭 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩

As part of Day 4 of our Eco-Trip, our student immersees participated in an enriching Art Appreciation session facilitated by our resource speaker, Mx. Vince Carlsmon Ventura. Through this creative learning experience, students were introduced to the beauty and significance of visual arts as a medium for self-expression, storytelling, and cultural appreciation.

During the workshop, Mx. Ventura demonstrated various watercolor painting techniques, allowing students to explore the versatility of watercolor as an artistic medium. From mastering brush control and color blending to experimenting with texture and layering, participants gained hands-on experience that enhanced both their artistic skills and creative confidence.

Beyond learning technical techniques, the session encouraged students to appreciate the role of art in fostering creativity, mindfulness, and personal growth. Through each brushstroke, they discovered how art can serve as a powerful tool for communicating ideas, emotions, and perspectives.

The activity provided a meaningful opportunity for students to connect with their creative side while developing a deeper appreciation for the arts and the value of artistic expression in promoting holistic learning and community engagement.
