We enjoyed a visit to Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru | the National Library of Wales today and the children had a great time in the playroom there!
Aberystwyth is Wales' first UNESCO City of Literature so it was a perfect place to visit for World Book Day! 📚❤️
Books are at the heart of our provision every day. As a huge bookworm myself, it brings me so much joy to see the children enjoying and loving books just as much. Reading has so many benefits for both children and adults — supporting wellbeing, developing language and vocabulary, sparking imagination, and nurturing emotional intelligence.
I’m so grateful to have reading and books in my life — they bring me happiness every single day. I hope the children will continue to enjoy and love books as they grow older, carrying that same joy and curiosity with them throughout their lives 📚❤️

Sometimes what we call play is actually an adult-directed activity in disguise.

Worksheets, pre-planned crafts, and rotating “stations” can look purposeful and productive — but often the thinking, the outcome, and the direction have already been decided by us.

In slow pedagogy, we ask a different question:

🌿 Who is leading here?
🌿 Whose ideas are shaping the experience?
🌿 Where is the space for curiosity to wander?

Child-led play isn’t always neat.
It doesn’t always photograph well.
It often changes direction halfway through.

But this is where deep learning lives:
• problem-solving
• creativity
• language
• confidence
• self-trust

At Hygge in the Early Years, we don’t rush children through activities or outcomes.
We slow the pace.
We soften the structure.
We create environments that invite exploration — and then we step back.

Because when children are trusted to follow their own ideas, they don’t just do learning…
They become learners.

✨ Less product.
✨ More process.
✨ Less adult agenda.
✨ More childhood.

This is slow pedagogy.
This is Hygge in practice 🤍

We really enjoyed a run around in the fresh air today, making the most of that sunshine while it was here.

It was so nice to see the sun today! We had a lovely walk and play in The Welsh Wildlife Centre, Cilgerran, Cardigan and the children enjoyed finding some puddles to jump in on the way back to the car! ☀️💦❤️
