Dry brushing your skin is one of the easiest ways to detoxify your body on a regular basis, plus your skin looks and feels nice as a result! A lot of people focus on their faces and neglect the rest of the skin on their bodies. So many benefits can come from just a little attention (literally only a few minutes).
Exfoliating is what gives your skin that fresh look (as we get older doing this twice a week is helpful). By sloughing off the old, we speed up the process for new (healthy and smooth) skin cells to form. Hello summer glow!
Speaking of skin, dry brushing can help the appearance of cellulite by massaging and breaking down the toxins stored in the subcutaneous fat. I'll take all the help I can get!
Toxins are everywhere, it's part of life. By stimulating the lymphatic system and increasing blood flow, circulation and drainage we can help our system be more efficient at moving them through and out. This can also help digestion and immunity…and by unclog your pores, it's easier for your body to sweat and release toxins in your system. Sweat can help eliminate fat-soluble toxins that get stored in our fat.
The stress part of all this comes into play when we give ourselves this gift of pampering and massage, it can be almost meditative. The improved circulation can help relax you and release tension.
So how do you dry brush?
➡️Start with a good brush and go all-natural with your bristles (synthetic defeats the purpose). I linked the two I like in my bio (honest suggestions, I don't make money off your purchase).
➡️ Remove clothing and brush dry skin prior to shower (the shower will help wash the dead skin away).
Start slow, and build up your tolerance to the sensation. Your skin may be red or flushed but shouldn't be sore. Don't be too rough! This is a gentle massage. (Don't brush over open wounds or burns).
➡️ Look at the diagram in my post for the direction to massage with your brush (the movement should move towards the heart - moving clockwise around breasts, buttox and stomach). Start at the bottom and work your way up - always towards your heart. The process should take less than 5 minutes.
