Speechless is all I can say…

The last few days have been surreal.

As a British woman I have always loved that our head of state was also a woman.

I’ve always had much admiration for Queen Elizabeth. Our Queen inspired and shown others what being a leader is truly about. To pledge her life to serve our country wasn’t just empty words to her and I am just in awe of her grit, determination and strength. How she guided us through so many monumental events all that is left to say is thank you your royal majesty.

Forever in our hearts you will be.

I’ve been slack in creating recently, so today I bit the bullet and did this little sketch with much appreciation for and her prompts…

It had been so long since I have posted and actually done any calligraphy for that matter! 😬 so here is a few things I’ve done in the past including an work in progress image of some wedding place cards for a very stunning bride.

Change, especially the big ones, is unbelievably wet your pants, get the heart rate up, sweaty pits scary. It flips my tummy in a million different directions and makes me question myself a hundred billion times…

So I always put a request out to the universe to check I’m doing the right thing. I’ll ask for something specific like a robin, sunflower or mermaid something that isn’t always consistently popping up in daily life.

The quote featured on this post is the one that always lets me know all will be fine if I’ve changed a job- it was pinned on the staff room board when I started my last teaching assistant job, it’s popped up on a Fb feed over the weekend (and the strange thing is I’m hardly ever on Fb) yesterday I was sat talking to my mentor during training in my new job when a robin flew down outside her window and stayed until I seen it it was then I knew I was going to be ok.

Don’t get me wrong I still have the tummy flips right now but I know I’m going to be ok.

So if your thinking about a making a big change ask for a specific object/ plant/ animal, etc to help you with it, know that you are being guided if you stay open, trust and be willing to listen.

Today I am using to spread awareness about the incredible

Founded by Ric O’Barry he is also director of Earth Islands institute ‘Save Japan’s Dolphins Campaign’ and starred in the award winning documentary ’The Cove’, an incredible film that opened my eyes to the mistreatment of these intelligent creatures and the horrific annual slaughter of dolphin in Japan.

Ric, formally a dolphin trainer vowed not to rest until every captive dolphin is freed after he witnessed one of the dolphins he trained for television series ‘Flipper’ die of stress in his arms.

The sea has always been a place of wonder, fascination and intrigue for me. I’ve always had this connection with it as long as I can remember, the water, the sounds, the feeling, the animals, the shear wonderment if it all. It breaks my heart to see how abused it is with overfishing, pollution and mistreatment of its creatures.

Which is why I wrote this post, there is always so much more we can do and you can help too. Litter pick on the beach, take your rubbish home, recycle, make more informed choices and please don’t support any shows in which dolphins or whales are shown. These places are absolutely in no way a sanctuary for these incredible creatures, in fact they are the complete opposite. Hope you have all had a wonderful Easter, here are some of the cards I created this week for friends and family inspired by ‘A year in calligraphy book’. An incredible book to help keep you inspired and practicing modern calligraphy throughout the year.

It has been lovely having a more ‘normal’ Easter this year, so I am sitting here snuggled up in my dressing gown after eating a hot cross bun bread and butter pudding. Waiting to read my youngest a bedtime story and just so thankful for so much today.

I’m thankful for the sunshine, the food in my belly, the kid’s excitement, spending time in the park and just to have days like today.

Banana leaves / curly hair / gold

This one was more of a focus on the production rather than concept, which is why I feel this portrait feels more ‘static’ and doesn’t have as much personality as previous pieces.

I was trying some new techniques on procreate and whilst I’m not 100% happy with this one, I’m not completely dissatisfied with it either. I’ve come a long way since beginning to use procreate in the last few years…

I allowed myself to be curious, explore, ask questions and play. So that in itself is a reason to share this piece!
