But you said C makes a 'ck' sound then it was it's K, then you throw CK at me!

I learned all of them now theres a soft C?!!!

If C is followed by i e or y it sats the soft 's' sound.
If it's followed by any other letters, it's the hard 'c' sound

Do many words and even more confusing rules!

Even with the rules there's extra confusion when there are 'sight words' and 'rule breakers '.

Sometimes the rules arent even looked at because they dont fit a curriculum...nowonder we can find it so difficult!

Here is just one ...the silent k. Often words like 'know' are described as 'sight words' but given the correct rule it can be decoded and read.

What language rules do you or your child struggle with?

*NB don't get me wrong the phonics curriculum is great for some but not everyone learns in the same way. I'm a classroom assistant and am not knocking phonics or teachers, not at all. I work in a fab school with fantastic teachers.
I am pointing out that sometimes we can decode and apply rules to makes things easier for those who struggle.

✨I know some children don't learn from the typical phonics teaching system; whether it's because they are dyslexic or are not finding reading comes easily and feel pressured and lack confidence in that area.

✨The really important thing is to find the teaching style that works for the child and Toe by Toe is an amazing teaching tool.

✨It teaches the child to decode the words and the boost in confidence when they not only learn to read but know that they are smart, all they needed was a different style of learning is amazing!

✨I have worked with children in nursery including after school and schools for 18 years, have NNEB Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Foundation Nursery Teaching qualifications and seeing the difference in the children I have worked with as they developed is amazing!

I'll be in work... classroom assistant in the brilliant Whitehead Primary School! It's really interesting how all the kids learn so differently, what their strengths are and how they can play to them.
