To mark World Animal Day, David Kelly, Director, reflects on our work at Chester Zoo and the delivery of the Realm of the Red Ape.

The project required a highly considered approach to building services design, creating the right environmental conditions for the animals while also supporting the experience of visitors and the day-to-day operation of the enclosure.

It is a strong example of how engineering design can adapt to very specific environments, balancing performance, comfort and operational requirements in a completely different type of setting.

𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸

In this video, Neil Baines, Managing Director, reflects on the six-year journey behind the Urgent Care and Trauma Centre at Aintree Hospital, from the technical challenges faced through to the relationships that helped deliver the project.

From complex plant room replacement to cold-water circulation, temperature control, isolation and room pressure requirements, the project demanded careful coordination, problem-solving and plenty of head-scratching along the way.

Beyond the engineering challenge, it is a project that continues to stand out because of the important role the building plays across our city region.

It also demonstrates the value of long-term working relationships between clients, consultants, partners and contractors - relationships that are built through delivering complex projects together.

Achieving Net Zero is about more than designing efficient buildings - it also means understanding how those buildings perform once they are in operation.

In this video, we look at the gap between predicted and actual energy demand, particularly within healthcare environments where operational requirements, plant capacity and resilience can significantly affect performance.

By considering these factors from the outset, building services design can better support long-term energy reduction and Net Zero ambitions.

We were pleased to sponsor the Innovation & Life Sciences Conference 2026, hosted by Downtown in Business.

Our Managing Director, Neil Baines, Electrical Director, David Kelly, and our West Midlands Regional Lead, Robert Wootton attended the event, bringing together leaders from across healthcare, life sciences, the public sector and the wider built environment.

With a significant amount of our work taking place across healthcare and universities, Neil explains why the event was such a natural fit for us, while also discussing the importance of regions understanding their strengths and the role construction can play in supporting future economic growth.

𝐅𝐢𝐒𝐇𝐀 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭 🎣

A weekend of fishing, camping and a few moments that probably need some explaining.

From setting up camp and getting the rods out to bingo, food, plenty of laughs and some surprisingly competitive fishing, there was a lot packed into the weekend. Between the catches, the near misses and everything happening around the campsite, FiSHA Fest definitely delivered a few memorable moments.

A fairly normal FiSHA Fest, then.

Thanks again to everyone who came along and made the weekend what it was.
