Research Paper on Teachers' Digital Competence in Kosovo Published in "Computers and Education Open"

We are delighted to announce that the research paper "Assessing Digital Competence of K1–12 Teachers in Kosovo: A Study through the Lens of DigCompEdu and TPACK" has been published in "Computers and Education Open", a prestigious Q1 journal indexed in the Web of Science and ranked in the first quartile, with an Impact Factor of 12.3.

The publication is the result of the successful scientific collaboration established through the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) project TKAEDiTE (Transforming Kosovo and Albanian Education System by Introducing Digital Technology in Teacher Education). The paper is a direct outcome of the close cooperation between researchers from Kosovo and the project's Nordic partners, demonstrating the value of international collaboration in advancing research on digital education and teacher professional development.

The paper is authored by Krenare Pireva Nuqi, Fisnik Dalipi, Italo Masielo, Ismail Celik, Jari Laru, Arsim Susuri, and Ali Shariq Imran.

The study provides a comprehensive assessment of the digital competence of K1–12 teachers in Kosovo by applying two internationally recognized frameworks: the European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators (DigCompEdu) and the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework. Through this dual perspective, the research examines educators' preparedness to effectively integrate digital technologies into teaching and learning while identifying strengths and areas that require further professional development.

The findings contribute to the growing body of international research on digital education and provide evidence that can support educational institutions, policymakers, and teacher education providers in designing strategies to strengthen teachers' digital competencies and promote meaningful technology integration in schools.

The acceptance and publication of this paper in "Computers and Education Open" represents a significant scientific achievement for the research team and further demonstrates the impact of the TKAEDiTE project in fostering high-quality international research partnerships.

It also highlights the continued contribution of researchers from Kosovo, together with their Nordic and international collaborators, to advancing educational technology research and supporting the digital transformation of education.

TKAEDiTE at the center of digital transformation: The project bringing Kosovo’s education closer to Europe

Digital transformation and European integration are no longer just a vision – they are becoming a reality through innovative projects that are changing the way higher education in Kosovo functions. In the documentary “Kosovo’s Path Towards Integration – A Journey Supported by the European Union”, broadcast by https://kallxo.com/kallxopernime/dokumentar-rruga-e-kosoves-drejt-integrimit/, it was clearly emphasized that technology, innovation, and modern education are key pillars of the country’s European future.

Among the initiatives attracting attention as concrete examples of this transformation is the TKAEDiTE.eu project, which is being recognized as one of the most important initiatives for advancing digital education and developing the competencies of the new generation in Kosovo.

Among several investments supported by the European Union presented in the documentary, the infrastructure developed and invested through TKAEDiTE.eu project was also showcased as an example of how EU-funded projects are contributing to the modernization of higher education institutions in Kosovo.

The documentary also featured an interview with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Blerim Saqipi, Dean of the Faculty of Education of the University of Prishtina, who highlighted the importance of innovation, digital competencies, and international collaboration in preparing students and academic institutions for the rapidly changing demands of the modern world.

By integrating modern technologies into the learning process, collaborating with international partners, and introducing innovative practices within universities, TKAEDiTE is opening new opportunities for students and academic staff alike. The project aims to build more modern, competitive, and future-oriented institutions capable of responding to the challenges of the global digital economy.

Experts emphasize that initiatives such as TKAEDiTE impact not only education, but also the broader economic and social development of Kosovo. At a time when Europe is investing heavily in digital transformation, Kosovo is demonstrating its readiness to move alongside the most advanced international trends.

The documentary delivered a strong message: European integration begins with education, innovation, and empowering young people with the skills needed for the future. In this journey, TKAEDiTE is emerging as one of the projects laying the foundation for a smarter, more modern, and more European higher education system in Kosovo.
