WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT US
1 LOCATION:
We are located in the South of Vanuatu, Tanna Island.
The college is nested on Lounikarian hill, 5 minutes from Lenakel Airport and 15 minutes from Lenakel town also called Blackman’s Town. We are accessible by plane ship, motor vehicles or even walk to the institution on Paradise Point Express Highway.
2 OUR COLLEGE ROLL:
Each year Tafea College accommodates 200-300students whohail from the five islands on Tafea Province namely Tanna, Aniwa, Futuna
, Erromango and Aneityum. There are a few students who come from other schools in the outlying island of Vanuatu.
3 HISTORY OF TAFEA COLLEGE. A brief account of the history of the establishment of Tafea College is given under separate cover in the issue of the Ambassador.
4 THE LAND DOWN UNDER. The land on which the school is built was given in good spirit by the chief of this community, Pita Iatis on a gorvnment lease condition. A brief account on this historical event is given under separate cover.
5 EDUCATION PROGRAMS. While the land ownership is under the jurisdiction of the chiefs, the college education program service delivery is gorverned by the Ministry of Education in Port Vila for both Francophone and Anglophone curriculum. An account of this curriculum is illustrated in this issue
6 BILINGUAL SCHOOL
Tafea College is a Bilingual institution providing education for both Francophone for french speaking students, and Anglophone for English Speaking students. A short history of why our school is bilingual is given in this book.
7 ADMINISTRATION DIVISION. There are four members in our Administration Division namely the Principal, Deputy Principal, Administrator, a Bursar and the Office Secretary.
8 TEACHING DEPARTMENT
There are 25 teaching staff members in this division. All are engaged in the service delivery for Francophone and Anglophone Curriculum.
9 FIJI VOUNTEER SERVICE
There are two retired Volunteer Teachers from Fiji engaged in the teaching of English and Agricultural Science subjects.
10 COLLEGE FACILITIES
Our college facilities comprise the following annexes, Administration Block, office Administration Centre, a staff room, information technology unit, library, Dining Hall, Kitchen, classrooms, staff quarters boys Hostels and girls Hostels, a farm, a water pump and a school track.
