In fact, through their cultural traditions and religious beliefs, their victims were not even considered children. What drove these men was racial hatred and a belief in cultural superiority. These men saw White working-class girls as beneath them. To be treated with contempt and disposed of when finished with because they were less than them. We’ve been conditioned to think that questioning this is racist. Yet what’s truly racist is the silence and the refusal to hold all communities to the same moral standard. Until we find the courage to confront this, without fear or favour, justice will remain out of reach. _________ They have tried everything to stop us. We are still here. They believed fear would silence us. They were wrong. Every attempt to punish us has only strengthened our resolve. We are stronger now than at any point in this struggle. Not because we ever sought out this fight, but because we could not turn away from what was happening to our children. This fight may be far from over. And at times it may feel hopeless.
