"A Fun Science Day with the Southern Institute of Ecology"
On April 12, in collaboration with the Southern Institute of Ecology, our school’s English club—the Owls’ Club—introduced us to zooplankton and their roles in aquatic environments. First, Mr. Nguyen Dinh P**c, a researcher and representative of the Institute, explained what zooplankton are, where they usually live, and the main types that exist.
After that, we visited the Sài Gòn River, which is very close to our school, to collect some water samples.
Back in the lab, we learned how to place a sample onto a slide—a thin piece of glass used with a microscope—and how to observe the zooplankton under the microscope. Finally, we were taught how to tell if water is dirty based on the types of zooplankton present, and we learned about the importance of drinking boiled water to stay healthy.
For us, it was one of the most exciting experiences we've ever had, and we truly enjoyed this extracurricular activity. Not only did we gain more knowledge about biology, but we also developed our observation skills, teamwork abilities, and awareness of environmental protection.
We hope the Owls’ Club will continue to organize more activities like this in the future!

Trải nghiệm khoa học thú vị cùng Viện Sinh Thái Học Miền Nam
Vào ngày 12 tháng 4, câu lạc bộ tiếng Anh của trường chúng em – Owls’ Club – đã phối hợp với Viện Sinh Thái Học Miền Nam tổ chức một buổi hoạt động ngoại khóa vô cùng bổ ích và lý thú. Dưới sự hướng dẫn của thầy Nguyễn Đình Phúc, nhà nghiên cứu và đại diện của Viện, chúng em đã có cơ hội tìm hiểu về sinh vật phù du (zooplankton) và vai trò quan trọng của chúng trong hệ sinh thái nước.
Mở đầu buổi học, thầy Phúc giới thiệu cho chúng em biết sinh vật phù du là gì, chúng sống ở đâu và có những loại phổ biến nào. Sau phần lý thuyết hấp dẫn, chúng em được trực tiếp ra sông Sài Gòn – ngay gần trường – để lấy mẫu nước về phân tích.
Trở lại phòng thí nghiệm, chúng em được hướng dẫn cách đặt mẫu nước lên lame kính (một miếng kính mỏng dùng để soi dưới kính hiển vi), và quan sát sinh vật phù du dưới ống kính một cách rõ nét. Điều thú vị nhất là chúng em được học cách nhận biết mức độ ô nhiễm của nước dựa vào loại sinh vật phù du có trong mẫu. Thầy Phúc cũng nhấn mạnh tầm quan trọng của việc uống nước đã đun sôi để đảm bảo sức khỏe.
Đối với chúng em, đây thực sự là một trải nghiệm độc đáo và đầy cảm hứng. Không chỉ được học thêm kiến thức sinh học, chúng em còn được rèn luyện kỹ năng quan sát, làm việc nhóm và nâng cao ý thức bảo vệ môi trường.
Chúng em rất mong Owls’ Club sẽ tiếp tục tổ chức thêm nhiều hoạt động ngoại khóa thú vị và ý nghĩa như thế này trong tương lai!

On December 27, together with Simple English, the OWL Club organized another amazing English communication activity for all the students from class 10A3. We helped them learn how to memorize vocabulary, not only by writing the words down but also by using actions for each word, which is called TPR method. In addition, we introduced an app called “Quizlet”, which helps them review the words they want to learn every day. Moreover, we had some mini games to entertain the students. Last Friday, November 29th, the English Club organized the competition "Let’s Race with Nkers." This event served as a platform for students to review general knowledge across the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It also helped them expand their understanding of word usage and sentence structuring. Additionally, the activity created excitement and increased students' enthusiasm for learning English at Năng Khiếu TDTT High School. The outstanding class groups that won prizes in this competition were: First Prize – Class 12A1, Second Prize – Class 12A4, and Third Prize – Class 12A5.
