➤ Quy tắc 1: 2 chủ ngữ số ít nối với nhau bởi “or” hoặc “nor” sẽ đi với động từ số ít

Ex: My aunt or my uncle is arriving by train today
Dì hoặc chú tôi sẽ đến bằng tàu hôm nay

➤ Quy tắc 2: chủ ngữ số ít nối với chủ ngữ số nhiều bởi “or” hoặc “nor”, động từ sẽ chia với chủ ngữ gần nhất

Ex: The serving bowl or the plates go on that shelf
Bát hoặc đĩa sẽ được xếp trên giá.
➤ Quy tắc 3: Công thức “either…or” và “neither…nor”, động từ sẽ chia với chủ ngữ đứng gần nó nhất

Ex: Either Pete or John is helping today with stage decorations
